Blue Skies Revisited

Ataris frontman performs classic disc live

Like most hardcore musical gormandizers, we’ve got a few “desert island discs” (i.e. albums we’d want in our possession if ever stranded on some abandoned atoll). The Dead KennedysFrankenchrist is one. Perhaps surprisingly, so is The AtarisBlue Skies, Broken Hearts . . . Next 12 Exits. While we’ll be eviscerated by music geeks everywhere for daring to compare the rancorous “Jock-O-Rama (Invasion of the Beef Patrol)” with teenage pop-punk like “San Dimas High School Football Rules,” we’ve got something of a soft spot for The Ataris’ breakthrough album from 1999. So we were pleased to hear that Ataris frontman/guitarist Kris Roe will be visiting Chyro Arts Venue to perform the entire disc in solo acoustic fashion, as well as a few new songs he’s been writing on the side. Locals It’s Like Love, February State, and Bring on the Fame will also perform.
