Forever Me 07/28/2010 5:26:00 AM
actually like Hollywood Hearthrob's music. But that was before I saw their music video for Below The Waist Of Time. There was a bunch of groupies like the 80s.

gaylord 02/09/2009 1:02:00 AM
These guys are beyond gay. They payed lindsey lohan $25000 to do a couple of photos......the use mp3 trax in their backing live performances. I guess they believe if you throw enough crap on the wall it will stick. Of course we all hope by that time, the drummer is broke working back at the new times...
-
Jeff 01/26/2009 10:43:00 PM
(to guy above) why would they want to compare themselves to GnR anyway, their new records is horse shit!! Inspirational story, lets hope they do something... lucky bastards
-
midnightwriter 01/17/2009 6:24:00 AM
The music is fucking horrible. Please dont ever compare yourselves to Guns and Roses. Im sick and tired of douchebags like these and there music. I dont even know why im writing on this fucking website, the New Times has gone down hill in a major way. Your a teeny bopper band from glendale arizona. You were in high school and you always will be. Put your sisters make up and jeans back in her room, put that communication degree to use.

p.s. i only hate their singer cuz my girlfriend and her friends want to bang him!!!

Giulio Sciorio 01/13/2009 5:52:00 PM
Damn Hollywood must be doing something good to cause all this emotion in readers.
It's also occurred to me (based on the comments only) that perhaps this is a big reason why the AZ scene has not been respected on a national level. Just be cool people its art, you may not prefer the music and you may be a person who likes to see the glass half empty but I and many others like to see the glass as half full.
If we work together to help each other out and appreciate what each artist is aiming to achieve then maybe we can have a scene that is respected on a national level.
I work with lots of artists on all levels and I find what works best for me to to have an open mind and open conversation so that I understand their point of view. This way I get something positive out of my interactions and can see the beauty in what my fellow artists are aiming to achieve.
A closed mind is its own punishment.

Steve 01/13/2009 5:06:00 PM
what the fuck is Modern Arts? I've never heard of it.
didn't the guy start his own record label?
the music is kick ass, they better make it so I can be proud of a non-emo, gay ass screaming band making it out of AZ!
-
Ben Collins 01/13/2009 6:19:00 AM
ON BEHALF OF MODERN ART RECORDS!
We have never even heard of this band let alone talked with them about putting this "music" out. If his statement is true, Myers statement is completely false we would prefer not to be associated with the project.

Thomas 01/13/2009 3:51:00 AM
Kasandra maybe you listen to Morrissey, Tori Amos and The Cure too much and since you just been raped you should dry your tears and get a grip.
Its music and ITS A BUSINESS read that? You think your fav bands do it just for the love? Get real bitch. Next time you're in Torid because your ass is too fat for Hot Topic and you're hating on the happy people you should think about sweating to the oldies.
These guys (if you actually read the article) are not making any claims or hiding anything from the public. Hollywood Heartthrob is an image. It's an image like any, ANY other musical act except maybe the shit head hippies on mill playing their granola rock with their balls tucked deep between their legs.
They played only a few select shows and according to the story have sold many and this is because of their image which was created by a team of top image makers. See the 1st post and find out who the photographer is and you'll understand.
Teddy got lucky and is able to live his dream so why you hating? You and all the haters would do the same if you had the money and had talent you would live your dream too. Thats all this story is.
Now if this country was not so image obsessed with their reality TV and fluff bullshit news then we could only speculate if these guys would make it. As it stands they are going to make it because they have the winning formula - Talent + Image + Business Brains = Success
Seriously people listen to the music its catchy. I was a hater at first too but the next day I had a melody stuck in my head and it was Next To You and that was it. I had to put my macho attitude aside and enjoy it.
There's not a whole lot of positivity out there today and to hear about some guy that won big and can live his dream is a breath of fresh air. Kas maybe you and the other haters here would donate all your money to a dog shelter or to save the dolphins but not most of us. We'd party a bit, save a bit then get out of our day job and just live our own American dream.
It's a business. It's a business. It's a business. GET IT?

Joey 01/13/2009 12:51:00 AM
This band blows. Has any records influence upon music proved so malignant? Concept album, gay rock, Brian Wilsons nervous breakdown, the kids of baby boomers yammering away about the Summer of Love, musicians taking their business more seriously than cancer surgeons all Hollywood Heartthrobs fualt. And is there anyone alive who hasnt suffered a collapse of the will to live during "their new hit single"? Please. Hurry up and spend all your money so I can read better stories in NEW TIMES.
-
Kasandra 01/12/2009 10:09:00 PM
Note: The band sucks. The token "metal fat guy" guitarist is the only one with any musical ability.
Next show, someone should put a cigarette out on the lead whiner's face.
And no, i'm not jealous of their money or good looks or the women they get.
I love music. and these people think that with designer jeans and moussed up hair, they can replicate or rather pull the wool over our eyes so we dont see what they are doing. They are raping everything I love.
-
Caroline 01/12/2009 7:07:00 PM
I just have a couple of thoughts on this matter. First, I'm rather surprised (and more than a little amused) at the vitriol directed towards this band and their business plan. These guys seem to understand clearly that the music business is a BUSINESS. You create a product or service, develop and perfect that which you sell and devise a sales plan to make consumers aware of the product while at the same time making them eager to buy it. From my point of view, that's all that is happening here. If you want to be angry about what they're doing, be angry about how the music industry works, not the fact that these guys want to be successful within that system.
Second, the photos in this issue are back to the standard I had grown accustomed to when NT frequently used Giulio Sciorio for their covers. What happened?
-
mark 01/12/2009 2:07:00 AM
These guys are INCREDIBLE!!!! I saw them play at Celebrity Theater and the performance and talent that comes out of these guys is mind blowing. I recently bought the album, and the musicianship and complexity of some parts is impressive! I've heard both of the guitarists studied n majored in music theory in college and from what it sounds, do nothing but play guitar. What other bands from az have 2 lead guitarists that shred the hell out of each other throughout the songs.
Easily been said many times from word of mouth...THE NEXT BIG THING! Excited to see what these guys do soon...

LazyM 01/12/2009 12:55:00 AM
Well. It has been interesting to read the comments from what must be a rich and diverse cross-section of New Times readers in regards to Hollywood Heartthrobs Take Over Plan.
It is now apparent that while some of you get it, the rest of you must have written your comments while taking a break from trying to figure out how to fill out the financial aid forms for the local trade college (by the way, they are not real colleges, you will not get a real degree, and you will NEVER, EVER be a video game designer).
Niki.your wrote a first class article and you captured the essence of the hard work, dedication, and cajones it takes to make it in the music industry.
What some readers must not have been able to glean from the article, is that this band, would have been in this place, at this time, irrespective of the good fortune that beset Ted Myers.
The core of this band has been together for nearly a decade now, which makes them music veterans, not some vanity project put together on a whim. Through their music, one member has toured Europe, another has already been a part of the Warped Tour, and the drummer is a skilled percussion craftsman (4 years at a major university and has taught at multiple high schools in the valley), not some banger who learned in his parents garage.
What was captured in the article, but needs to be expanded upon, is the quality and character of its members. Hollywood Heartthrob is fun. Their music is fun, their fans are fun, and their shows are amazingly fun. Which is why the girls love them (and their parents dont mind if they go to a show). At the Phooson Show, while Fall Out Boy, Rihanna, and Jesse McCartney stayed in their dressing rooms (obviously way too important to mingle with us common folk), these five young men scheduled a one-hour appearance at 6 p.m. to sign some CDs and meet their fans. A huge crowd surrounded their merch tent. Three hours later they were still signing CDs, Phooson tickets, T-Shirts and taking pictures with any fan who asked. Some of their fans even absconded with the posters that were placed throughout Cricket Pavilion and asked the band to sign them as souvenirs.
Intelligent without being profane. Talented musicians without the egos. A loyal and dedicated fan base made up of people who appreciate what good music is and understands the essence of Hollywood Heartthrob. Sounds like a winning business plan to me.
Go to Zia and pick up their CD or check them out on their website, you too will understand what Hollywood Heartthrob is all about.

This band is horrible. And yes, I agree, I viewed this piece as instilling more pity in the reader than interest or envy.
I'm glad that Teddy, an evil young man, will waste his good fortune on such a venture.

Mark 01/10/2009 8:23:00 PM
Wow..anyone bashing these guys about how all they care about is image has obviously not listened to any of their music. Id make sure you listen your their songs first before you get on here and make yourself look like idiot. Not to mention their guitarist was awarded one of the top 10 guitarists in Phoenix. These guys are amazing, they are definatly very talented musicians and are going to blow everyone away. Good luck in the future!
-
TGRAgency 01/10/2009 4:09:00 PM
Its a shame that people can be so jealous and spiteful when they are intimidated by such good looking, talented artists. If I were doing nothing and had dreams of be a rockstar, Id be jealous too. Take note, it's 2009 and the world is in need of something new. These guys are the next big thing. You can waste your time wallowing in your jealousy. Instead of trying to justify why you personally think these guys suck, go make something of your life. While you sit and criticize, these guys are gonna hit big. But hey- Your just making them more famous- As we all know, any publicity is good publicity.

Yo Momma 01/10/2009 12:36:00 AM
Craig -- thanks for that link to Idolator. I wonder why users must "audition" to leave comments there that must first be "approved by the team."
Thank god New Times doesn't do that. People there must be able to handle criticism.

Holly 01/09/2009 10:59:00 PM
WOW! These boys are all so amazing. They are a group of very talented young men who will succeed in everything that they do.
They are very dedicated to what they do. And for those who just say that all they care about is the image and that's not what indie music is all about....well then they don't know anything. Image does count for a lot in this industry...you wouldn't want to go see a band with 5 guys that looked like a bunch of bums or crack heads would you??? I didn't think so.
Not only are these boys absolutely gorgeous, their sound is amazing! Hollywood Heartthrob as come a long way since the Faucet days!!
Teddy got very lucky with his winning and wasn't stupid about how to spend it. Unlike many young adults, he didn't just go blow it on wasteful material things. He's a smart young man and invested it in something that he believes in, something that a lot of his friends, family and fans believe in....the band.
I wish those talented young men the best of luck through their journey. You all are a bunch of young ROCKSTARS!!!!

Victoria 01/09/2009 9:55:00 PM
I might like Hollywood Hearththrob if they thought more about their music instead of the way they look and swinging their guitar around. It gets annoying. Your music is what will keep you alive, not your theatrical jumps, exaggerated singing and all that manliner.

This article is a wonderful portrait of a dangerous man, the artist-entrepreneur. For years Teddy has shown a tirelessness and courage as a band leader unlike anyone I've seen. For some success is just a matter of time, because these people make their own luck. Still, you might have wondered what a smart and endlessly ambitious young guy like Teddy would do with a load of money the way you wonder what the Hulk would do with Thor's hammer. I dont think anyone who has known Teddy believes that winning that prize will have any real effect on the outcome, except that success will probably come sooner and less painfully than it otherwise might have. So the haters can suck it. Hollywood Heartthrob is an extremely talented, dedicated bunch, and Teddy is an extraordinary leader. Id wish him luck, but I think he drew his wild card already. The rest is, has been, and will be the fruit of his prodigious skill.
All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. -T.E. Lawrence

I almost suspect that this is one of New Times' prank articles. Isn't the reader supposed to come away feeling sorry for these guys because of how intent they are on buying fame and popularity?

Indie bands take notice. It's not about the music anymore its about the image. - Giulio Sciorio
Since when was the indie scene about anything but image? Angular hair, eyeliner, flannel, tight jeans over skinny bodies, piercings, tattoos; you can tell an indie rocker by their looks. And there certainly isn't much indie music that stands out as memorable.
With this renewed focus on image, maybe the next big indie band will be lip synchers, a la Milli Vanilli. Maybe they won't even have to play instruments. They could just stand there onstage, projecting their "image" while the adoring fans OOOHHH and AAAHHH!
No thanks, I'll take an over the hill Neil Young or a criminally undiscovered Bill Mallonee or a vastly underrated Anne McCue or a woefully underappreciated Jackie Greene or . . . . anything but another slacker band built on "image".

Silver Medallion 01/08/2009 9:36:00 PM
On a less selfish note, this is a superbly written article.

Silver Medallion 01/08/2009 9:30:00 PM
"Phoenix R&B group Silver Medallion is supposed to be playing; they're not around, either."
We we're deejaying the party when they came in. And we called the GM to get ya'll in.
Wow... thanks for the love.

Working musician 01/08/2009 8:10:00 PM
interesting story, but the more i read the less i thought of the band. more power to them, but shouldnt a band concentrate on music more then all the image stuff. they should of paid for music lessons and theory classes instead of make up artists and hair stylists (im not questioning there musicianship, but even flea from the chilli peppers realizes he needs to know more and is in music school). oh well its just another cok rock pop band that is sure to have plenty of fans around phx (im sure they'll have plenty of right ups too)

Fabio 01/08/2009 7:51:00 PM
These guys are UNREAL!!! I know these guys can rock the hell out of a stage and party just as hard after. I went to one of their concerts about a month ago. It was $#%@ing amazing. Ted rocks the %$* out of the drums and everything sounds ridiculously good. They have an amazing presence on stage and can really perform. I definitely have their CD and I hope the success continues for these guys. They definitely have rockstar in their blood, and success in their brains. ROCK THE %$&@ ON!!!

This band is soooo sick! They have a pretty boy image but they rock so hard and their music is well thought up!

Giulio Sciorio 01/08/2009 12:21:00 AM
Great read as always Niki. I know you had to trim off a ton of words but I wanted to give props to my team and to clarify what was done for the shoot.
Without going into major details my team and I made the band's image. Valdese Jones (www.valdesejones.com) did all the fashion styling, shopping for clothing for days, Dayvid Lemmon (www.dayvidlemmon.com) did all the retouching and Jenney Benson did all the makeup (jenneybenson.com) plus I had an additional two assistants for a total of six plus the crew at Synthetic Human (synthetichuman.com) do all the video work as you mentioned.
The album design is a sixteen page masterpiece by Matt Fischer at Provoke (www.provokecreative.com) who worked closely with me on art direction.
We shot for six long long days. Most days started at 4am and finished around midnight. The band did really well some of the best subjects I photographed and were open and willing to do anything I needed for the shoot.
My experience with Teddy and the guys really changed my entire business and brought me to a new appreciation of working with other talented artists that know what it takes to be big.
I've become good friends with Tom right away. Tom is one of those magical people you don't meet too often and that friendship alone was worth it for me.
Indie bands take notice. It's not about the music anymore its about the image. This is not Teddy's fault, he's a super smart man with loads of talent and he knows what it takes to make it huge and he will take over.
Hollywood Heartthrob has everything they need to make it huge but like you said the missing piece is distribution. That will happen. If anyone can do it its Teddy and Tom.
