Of Human Bondage

iTheatre production explores the legacy of slavery

Should African-Americans cling to the legacy of slavery as part of their identity or should they distance themselves from this shameful, victim-identified chapter of their history? Thomas GibbonsA House with No Walls, in a production by iTheatre Collaborative, explores this conflict by juxtaposing a fictionalized, present-day story with the true tale of one of George Washington's slaves as she contemplates escape.

In the present-day drama, inspired by real-life events, a conservative academic and a super-liberal political activist go head to head about the site of the new American Museum of Liberty, which has been built on the grounds of Washington's Philadelphia home and slave quarters.

Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 23. Continues through Feb. 7, 2009
