Like it or not, DJ William Fucking Reed's debaucherous weekly dancefest Shake! has been a Saturday-night institution for booty-shaking hepcats around P-town since launching in 2005. And after four years of rocking the Rogue Bar in Scottsdale, it's still managing to survive and thrive amidst an ever-turbulent nightlife scene. One of its keys to success has been the innate ability of Reed and his ever-changing stable of turntablists (the current roster features Prince $$, Ashley Nicole, and Funkfinger) to provide a swank mix of music — ranging from Britpop and mod rock to disco-punk and glam — that whips sweaty crowds into a frenzy. The sounds and crowds have constantly changed over the years, from the early days of former Hot Pink! kids grinding to electroclash, through various phases of post-punk, electro, and glam. Reed and company also serve up the latest indie-rock tracks, as well as an impressive array of guest DJs, to boot. Members of Shiny Toy Guns, She Wants Revenge, The Faint, and Tokyo Police Club have all spun, as have a lineup of British music icons, like Andy Rourke of the Smiths or Daniel Ash of Bauhaus fame. (The latest visitor is equally cool: Vito Roccoforte, drummer for NYC's The Rapture, who'll be in the house for the weekly's fourth anniversary affair.) Short of Reed getting bored with his job, we expect him to reign as the hipster king of Saturday nights for years to come.
