More About

It's said that "a Sunday well spent brings a week of content," which is why for the past few years we've been spending the last night of our weekends tuned into local NPR station KJZZ (91.5 FM on your radio dial) for Bob Corritore's program Those Lowdown Blues. Every week for the past quarter-century, the 52-year-old owner of the Rhythm Room has been broadcasting his lifetime knowledge of the 12-bar art form through a five-hour playlist of some of the best blues artists in the world. We're not afraid to admit that everything we know about the musical genre comes from listening to Corritore opine about such legends as R.L. Burnside and Bo Diddley, discussing the history of Chicago great Junior Wells, or spinning samples from John Lee Hooker's Detroit years. He's like a walking blues encyclopedia who also knows how to blow a mean harmonica and has one of the slickest pompadours you'll ever see. Corritore's planning to celebrate the silver anniversary of his program in style, with an all-night jam session at his joint featuring the members of his Rhythm Room All-Stars, including Big Pete Pearson, Brian Fahey, Patrick Rynn, and Chris James. Several renowned blues artists will also guest star, such as Chief Schabuttie Gilliame and Dave Riley. We've heard a rumor that the ghost of Robert Johnson may even be amblin' by for the party.
