Perhaps he got the idea from renowned early 20th-century painter Ernest Blumenschein, whose influential art career came about via a series of lucky accidents. The dude discovered painting by chance while at music school, then stumbled on his future hometown of Taos, New Mexico, when his carriage broke down, and eventually became one of the city’s most famous artists.

Catch Blumenschein’s Southwestern landscapes, portraits, and early illustrations in the “In Contemporary Rhythm: The Art of Ernest L. Blumenschein” exhibit.
