The Bronx

The Yucca Tap Room has long been a haven for local bands, but the venue rarely hosts national touring acts (we're guessing that whole "never a cover" policy might have something to do with it). Thus, it will be a rarity when Los Angeles hardcore punk outfit The Bronx plays there Tuesday night. Then again, The Bronx doesn't seem overly concerned with financial gain in the first place, so perhaps it's a good fit after all. The Bronx was reportedly signed to Island Def Jam Music Group after playing only a dozen shows but opted instead to start its own label, White Drugs, to put out its debut album. In another cash-eschewing move, their third album, released late last year, is available for streaming in its entirety on the band's MySpace page. Then there's The Bronx's penchant for unlikely cover songs (Neil Young's "The Needle and the Damage Done") and performing as a full-fledged mariachi band (suits and all) under the name Mariachi El Bronx. Clearly, The Bronx is a band blazing its own path, which means they should fit right in at the friendly confines of the Yucca.
