Fully Naked Theater

Nearly Naked production strips mythology bare

The dying queen of Athens is back, but chances are we won’t immediately recognize her in Nearly Naked Theatre’s workshop production of Phaedre -- at least, not if the company’s past adaptations of classical mythology are any indication. Artistic Director Damon Dering, whose deeply inventive retellings of ancient tales always make for interesting theater, has crafted a new take on the story of Phaedra, who falls in love with her stepson, Hippolytus, and destroys a kingdom (not to mention the reputation of Aphrodite). Dering and company are preparing this adaptation, which features full nudity and switches back and forth between classical and modern language, for a full-blown production next season.
