The dying queen of Athens is back, but chances are we wont immediately recognize her in Nearly Naked Theatres workshop production of Phaedre -- at least, not if the companys past adaptations of classical mythology are any indication. Artistic Director Damon Dering, whose deeply inventive retellings of ancient tales always make for interesting theater, has crafted a new take on the story of Phaedra, who falls in love with her stepson, Hippolytus, and destroys a kingdom (not to mention the reputation of Aphrodite). Dering and company are preparing this adaptation, which features full nudity and switches back and forth between classical and modern language, for a full-blown production next season.
