Conversation Peace

Arizona artist aims for global amity with neo-hippie art

Iraq is still a mess and the Taliban’s busy breaking treaties with Pakistan, but artist Pam Harrison holds out hope for global peace. Or maybe she’s just a revisionist. Either way, you should check out her towering ceramic peace totems and fabric-covered maps imprinted with words of love and happiness at her new “World Peace Project” exhibit.

“Every language in the world has a word for peace. Therefore, it is possible," says Harrison. And if that isn't enough to convince you of her hippie street cred, she’s giving away peace-sign necklaces with every $10 donation to the nonprofit organization Nonviolent Peaceforce.

Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: May 1. Continues through May 31, 2009
