The Running Man

New book examines the secrets of distance

We’ve tried to get into running plenty of times, but it never lasts for more than a couple of miles. No matter how motivated we are at the start, it doesn’t take us long to realize that we’ve never experienced sore knees while watching TV -- and it’s only rarely given us chafed nipples.

Whether you’re lazy like us or a devoted runner, see to it that you’re at Changing Hands Bookstore to see Christopher McDougall discuss and sign copies of his new book, Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen. The contributor editor to Men’s Health magazine traveled to Mexico’s Copper Canyon to study the secrets of the reclusive Tarahumara Indians, a tribe full of people capable of running hundreds of miles without rest. In the book, the author recounts his experiences and challenges the notion that distance running and healthy joints are mutually exclusive. After hearing McDougall’s stories, you’re bound to have all the motivation you need to start running, at least for a couple of miles.
