To quote James D. Rolfe, a.k.a. the Angry Video Game Nerd, “You know what’s bullshit?”

Here’s what: registering for the Pokémon Video Game Regional Championships and not being one of the 128 randomly chosen gamers. Or spending long hours training your Flareon, but losing in the first round to your opponent’s lowly Magikarp flail technique.

WTF?!

Regardless, each registrant will receive one level-50 Shiny Milotec, so bring your Nintendo DS and your North American copy of Pokémon Platinum. The first-place finisher receives a Regional Champion plaque and a guaranteed slot at the National Championships in St. Louis in late June.

The scene is West Building Hall 2 at Phoenix Convention Center. Senior-level registration starts at 8:30 a.m. Junior sign-up follows at 11:30 a.m.
