Our seventh-grade year in north Phoenix was spent racing our cruddy bike down alleys and jumping over canals, flanked by our best buds Brent and John. Respectively known as “new girl,” “pest,” and “the redhead,” we’d roll over to the homestead for a few dirty cannonballs after a disgruntled Mr. Barton had faithfully scrubbed the swimming pool to a sparkling blue. Funny, Dad rarely went in, choosing to drink beers and throw the cans at us instead.

Ironically, Daddy’s damaged princess can dive into the first annual Desert Punk Pool Party to the tagline, “Fuck water, we swim in blood, sweat, and booze!” Club Red and The Red Owl host nine angry young bands on two stages, including feisty, California-bred The Lowclass and White Flag Down and Arizona’s Clipped Wing Culling, Automatic Self Destruct, and Last Action Zeros.

The pool-toy-free 21-and-over show starts at 8 p.m.
