Remember in fourth grade when your Little League squad was really good and your dad went to every game? Remember in fifth grade when your team sucked and Dad suddenly had to work late every night? He wasn’t a bad father; he just understood that rooting for a loser sucks.

No matter how much you care about a team, it’s hard to enjoy yourself if they get their asses kicked every time you see them. Given that, you’d be a fool not to be at US Airways Center to watch the Phoenix Mercury kick off their 2009 home season with a preseason game against the Seattle Storm. While the Diamondbacks, Suns, and Coyotes have all disappointed in the last couple of years, the Mercury are still only two years removed from a championship season. And with a solid nucleus anchored by stars Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter, there’s no reason why the ladies in purple can’t return to the top of the heap this season.
