Winning Last Comic Standing has its perks.

For one, it allows one to talk motorcycles with Jay Leno and rib fellow competitor John Heffron, as LCS season-three champeen Alonzo Bodden has been doing. “We both bought our houses about the same time,” Bodden tells New Times. “In the beginning, we were learning things about landscaping and redoing garages, and now we call each other every week to see how little each other’s house is worth.”

An LCS victory also scores you gigs hosting 101 Cars You Must Drive as well as roles playing security guards, cops, and bouncers. Mostly, it cements your status as an entertainment lifer. “It’s the most creative outlet we have,” says Bodden. “The guys I want to emulate, for lack of a better word -- the guys whose careers I want to steal, to tell the truth -- they spent their time on the road, grinding. I don’t think I’m going to be a YouTube sensation, and my sex appeal dwindles with each passing year, so I’m going to go with the funny.”
