If you drink enough, you can almost remember Emerald Lounge. Almost.

Give yourself five Phoenician points if you used to frequent the Emerald Lounge back in its glory-hole-in-the-wall days. Take those points right the hell back if you haven’t checked out its chic, cleaner -- but still uniquely Phoenix -- successor, SideBar. The atmosphere at this upstairs urban loft adorned with midcentury-modern-inspired décor makes it difficult to recall the smoke-heavy air and whiskey-induced rock ’n’ roll raunchiness that used to occur downstairs at the Emerald a few short years back. While the crowd changes with each night of the week, SideBar’s Sunday Service nights (where all drinks are 20 percent off) have been causing the biggest buzz. Its Sunday popularity also stems from SideBar’s status as the official afterparty for the Wyndham’s all-day poolside bash Adult Swim. This weekend’s post-pool crowd will likely be bigger and wilder than ever with DJ Jared Alan (pictured) spinning in celebration of FauxShow’s three-year anniversary.
