The God Squad

Unlikely power couple pump out new book about family and faith

Ever notice how a celebrity’s career goes downhill after he or she “finds” religion? Scientologist Tom Cruise alienated fans by publicly flogging celebs over their antidepressant use. Prince’s concerts blow chunks now that his Jehovah’s Witness beliefs have him singing the praises of the Lord instead of “Little Red Corvette.” We suspect that Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner must actually be blessed by the Almighty, because he’s managed to play in two Super Bowls -- one at age 37! -- and remain popular with the public, despite constantly pumping his Christian beliefs. Kurt and Brenda Warner, the Valley’s most unusual/unlikely power couple, pump up the volume on the God meter even more in their new tag-team book First Things First: The Rules of Being a Warner, billed as “an intimate, no-holds-barred look at the life inside the crazed and chaotic Warner household.” Does the world really need this? That’s an issue for you and your personal savior to haggle out, but if nothing else, the Warners’ book signing offers the chance to pump the paw of an actual Super Bowl QB.
