After a bone-pummeling, mind-numbing first 87 games of the season, punctuated by only nine days off since opening day on April 6, the only thing that stands between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the luxuriant four-day All-Star Break from July 13 through 16 is a four-game stand against the Florida Marlins. The vast majority of the D-Backs will be getting a truly plush rest, ’cause ace pitcher Dan Haren and right fielder Justin Upton are the only dudes on A.J. Hinch’s underachieving roster who earned berths on the National League All-Star team. (At presstime, third baseman Mark Reynolds had a slim shot at making the team as a reserve.)
