House music soul-dier Pete "Supermix" Salaz spins this Friday at Tribes.
We've lost count of the number of DJ collectives and crews ("cliques," if you must) that occupy our fair city's EDM landscape. Just off the top of our heads, there are: Salacious Beat Slingers, Cosmic Sea, Groove Corps, the Solstice posse, and Warsaw Pact. Hence the idea behind Tribes, where turntablists and mixing mensches from these and other groups will gather together on Friday, July 31, for a desert pow-wow and 12 straight hours of music. It's being described as a "fresh ideas festival" that runs from dusk until dawn and features DJs like Julio, Pete "Supermix" Salaz, Spyder, and Qwik engaging in spin sessions and feeding off each other's creativity. Fire-dancers will perform and open tables will also be available during the first and final two hours for anyone who'd like to hone their spinning skills. The love-in starts at 6 p.m. and admission is $5. Call 623-565-9742 for location.
