Forty years ago this month, the not-yet-miraculous Mets languished 10 games behind the Chicago Cubs in the National League East before overtaking the kamikaze Cubs and, eventually, winning the World Series. Don’t expect anything quite so stupefying – unless it’s in the bad way – when a much more run-of-the-mill version of the New York Mets visits the just-plain-inept Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game set.

Hell, we’d settle for an error-free game. Call us dreamers.
