Book discussions are always a crapshoot, but their location will give you a clue to the tome’s level of suckage. Meet at a comic-book store and you’ll get Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Wine bar? Oprah’s next Book Club loser. Gun shop? Ann Coulter, natch!

We’re holding out hope for the Downtown Phoenix Book Group, whose next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, at the super-cute MADE art boutique. This month’s selection is Julie & Julia by blogstress Julie Powell, which spawned the recent movie starring Meryl Streep as the effervescent Julia Child. You can buy the book at MADE for 10 percent off, or bring some boxed wine and your dog-eared library copy and look like a total cheap-ass for free.
