Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, and Lenny White

Corea, Clarke, and White
Corea, Clarke, and White

So maybe this is the year of the celebrity death, but 2007 had its share. That year, all sorts of heavy-hitting jazz musicians crossed to the other side, including Alice Coltrane, Max Roach, Michael Brecker, Oscar Peterson, and Joe Zawinul. The past two years haven't been immune either (Freddie Hubbard, Eartha Kitt, Rashied Ali), so that's why we, not only as jazz fans but as music freaks, need to see the heavy-hitting legends while they're still breathing the same Earthling air we are. When multiple Grammy Award-winning composer and pianist/keyboardist Chick Corea hits downtown on a world tour, he'll not only bring fellow Return to Forever alumni Lenny White on dynamic percussion and bassist Stanley Clarke, but also more than 100 years of combined ethereal arrangements in the jazz idiom. Aside from the Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette trio that's been touring the globe for years, you'll be hard-pressed to find another group with this much experience as well as direct roots to the late-'60s/early-'70s electric jazz sound birthed by the late Miles Davis.
