Pink

The old book on Pink: Debbie Gibson with tattoos. The new book on Pink: Surprisingly durable pop madam. Granted, the two-time Grammy winner will never be revered like her idol, Janis Joplin, but she's certainly made some solid, career-prolonging adjustments since her early days as an R&B puppet-rebel. In eight years, the pride of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, has gradually moved away from the packaged rebellion of Can't Take Me Home and become something of a club-goer's Sheryl Crow: dance singles mixed with mid-tempo ballads of loss and triumph. The 30-year-old singer is currently entering the seventh month of a worldwide tour supporting her platinum-selling Funhouse album, a 12-track confessional reportedly inspired by her turbulent marriage with motocross racer Carey Hart. Disses Pink on the chart-topping single "So What": "I'm just fine/And you're a tool." Hey, it ain't Sea Changes, but for this one-time party starter, it's pretty darn deep. Now if she'd just jettison the party-in-the-front, business-in-the-back haircut. It's sooooo Gosselin.
