Triple Threat

Three local emcees forward the Phoenix movement

It's been a long time coming for the Valley hip-hop scene. Over the past decade, the strategy of scattered soloists and isolated crews has given way to more collaborative efforts, banking on strength in numbers to stir up attention. On Thursday, September 24, The Council Productions, a four-man beat-making outfit, teams up with Blunt Club to re-up with The Resurrection Triple CD-Release Party.

The Council Pro provides the musical backing for three different and distinct albums from Arizona spitters. Hejus Trife's Life and Loyalty proves a compelling study of contrasts, with his nimble flow evoking his Brooklyn-rooted, spill-over tracks to ride to. For ROK's entry, Soul Reflections, The Council's beats wisely tend toward soundscapes crafted to showcase the wordsmith's introspective lyrical journeys. Before I Leave sees J-Luv's gruff baritone vocals solidly stomp on the instrumentals gifted to him.
