Who knew mapping was so controversial? This historian, that's who. In his Atlas of Radical Cartography and on his Web site (www.radicalcartography.net), Rankin takes the gov and what he considers its too-conventional conventions to task. In this talk sponsored by Future Arts Research (F.A.R.) and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, he talks about the book and presents new maps of the Phoenix area. His goal? To "present a vision of the Valley of the Sun that problematizes the typical dichotomy between the seemingly empty desert and the ever-expanding city." Yikes. Artist/writer/curator Alexis Bhagat will also speak.
