Eighth Time's The Charm

Actually, darling, they’re all delightful

The Rainbows Festival & Street Fair is sweet in the old-fashioned sense of the word. It’s feel-good but non-saccharine, communal but non-violent. No death metal. No gangsta rap. Maybe a few show tunes sprinkled in amid the playfully bawdy main-stage performances of local drag aces Freddy Prinze Charming and Sisterzz Twisted.

Mosh pit? Darling, please.

Other highlights of the eighth annual incarnation – as ever, one of the largest LGBT gatherings in the state -- include the Arizona Gay Idol Finals featuring dance/soul singer RaShaan Houston, the hefty (and tasty) cranberry Smirnoffs, and the lingering sense of je ne sais quoi.
