One of off-Broadway’s longest running gags, er, plays begins a run at downtown’s Soul Invictus Gallery & Cabaret tonight. It’s a safe bet that curiosity will make for a healthy draw given a name like Vampire Lesbians of Sodom.

Charles Busch’s ambitious piece follows the lives of two vampiresses who traverse history to determine whether a succubus or a sacrificial virgin-turned-succubus will be the victor. From ancient Sodom to modern Las Vegas, the blood-sucking femmes fatale duke out their love-hate relationship onstage. The production is playing with another Busch beauty, Sleeping Beauty or Coma, the tale of a ’60s supermodel who drank the Kool-Aid.

The shows, under the aegis of Phoenix Rising Artists Collaborative, make their local debuts at 8 p.m. Friday, November 6, at Soul Invictus.
