On Art and LifeLocal painter had a rougher summer than you. Guaranteed.By Steve JansenPublished on November 04, 2009 at 4:00amLuis Daniel Gutierrez went through a lot this summer. For one, hes a starving artist just trying to make ends meet. But thats no biggie considering that his sister was murdered a few months back. Instead of harping on the tough times, he decided to lighten things up a bit for his next big exhibit, which opens with a First Friday reception at Portlands Restaurant. About the show, the Phoenix-based painter who visually keeps things light while creating thematic pensiveness says, I have made a bunch of prayer flags in the tradition of Buddhist prayer flags with a contemporary twist, says Gutierrez. This will be a fun and very colorful exhibition. Fri., Nov. 6, 6 p.m.-midnight, 2009
