Culture Club

New Latino/a gathering spot opens downtown

There’s one for the Irish and the Chinese. Now, Phoenix Latinos are finally getting their own arts and cultural center, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with a party.

The Arizona Latin@ Arts and Cultural Center has its grand opening with a gala that includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Phil Gordon; holiday arts and crafts; and dance and theater by performers such as Zarco Guerrero. The cultural center is also the host of a new art exhibit titled “Visiones de ALAC,” which take place in La GalerÍa 147 and showcases more than 80 pieces by Latino/a artists in the community.

Fri., Dec. 4, 5-9:30 p.m., 2009
