Musical update of Chekhov centers on a trio of tragedy-haunted sisters

Try traveling, growing up, and/or growing old with two other people, and you'll realize there's hardly anything on which three can agree -- each takes a turn as the sore loser. Such conflict suffuses Anton Chekhov's drama Three Sisters (allegedly inspired by the real-life Brontës), whose heroines, in turn, planted a seed for Janet Pryce, Thomas W. Jones II, and William Hubbard's gospel and R&B-flavored musical, Three Sistahs.

Set in 1969 in Washington, D.C., the play focuses on the Bradshaw sisters, who've reunited to bury their brother who was killed in Vietnam -- the family's third funeral in three turbulent years. The women work through grief and nostalgia to make some life-changing choices.
