It's amazing that, as busy as the members of the Canadian indie-rock group Metric are, they can still find time to release any new material. Metric frontwoman Emily Haines and guitarist James Shaw are both members of the Canadian indie-rock super group Broken Social Scene. In 2007, Haines released an intimate solo album titled Knives Don't Have Your Back and the companion EP What Is Free to a Good Home under the name Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton. Even Metric's rhythm section has its own side project, with bassist Josh Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key forming the garage-rock group Bang Lime and releasing their album Best Friends in Love. But to top it all off, the group decided to ditch their record label and instead chose to start their own label called Metric Music International. With all this going on, it is no wonder that it has been almost four years since the band released a new album (the 2007 album Grow Up and Blow Away was originally scheduled to be the band's debut album in 2001 but was shelved by the band's former record label), but the wait has been well worth it. The group's latest album, Fantasies, released in April of this year, is already the band's best-selling and most critically acclaimed album to date.
