The 4,300-Mile Club

Local storyteller dishes about latest adventure

Thanks to the just-passed holidays, we’ve been too emo, burned out, fat, and drunk to ditch the piles of work/errands to get some exercise. Layne Gneiting would have something to say about that, which could be along the lines of, “Stop being such a pansy, you sissy boy” (our words, not his).

Gneiting, a very nice man that probably wouldn’t allow such filth to spout from his mouth, does the following: lectures at ASU, plays music as a classically-trained pianist, and, as a father of seven, chases his children around his East Valley home. He also rides his bicycle a little bit; during a recent jaunt across the northern U.S., he pedaled 4,300 freaking miles, all while his fam trailed behind in a weathered motor home.

Gneiting, a guy that doesn’t have one lazy bone in his body, talks about his journey in a story-telling élan at REI.
