Nativists Go Nuts at a Phoenix Walmart, and the Arizona Republic Belittles the U.S. Attorney’s Investigation of Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Why doesn't it surprise me that nativist stalwart Lynne Stevens, known also by her YouTube handle "Jackie40D," recently pulled her ever-present sidearm while protesting day laborers at a Walmart in Central Phoenix?

Two reasons: Stevens' several violent statements in the past toward Mexicans and others, and a recent escalation of tensions between activists — on both sides of the immigration debate — at the 37th Street and Thomas Road store.

There, day laborers (many of Mexican descent and some undoubtedly undocumented) gather daily from sunrise to sunset, hustling to snag work from those seeking to give it to them. Unlike the Home Depot store next door, Walmart does not trespass the dozens of men who wait for a chance at a day of pay.

Though nativists have staked out a section of sidewalk on Thomas Road in front of Walmart every Saturday for several weeks, their numbers have dwindled to a few hardliners, including Stevens, James Markins (known as "Angry Jim" by anti-nativist forces), and a wheelchair-bound Native American known only as Nelson.

According to Sergeant Brian Murray of the Phoenix Police Department's Community Relations Bureau (which keeps the peace at Phoenix demonstrations), the commander of the area precinct once stationed cops nearby, but no longer.

"The precinct had officers out there dedicated to the day-laborer issue," Murray told me. "But they've been reassigned and are now employed in a different capacity in the precinct."

Normally, this might seem an effective use of manpower considering the puny numbers of nativists clinging to protest signs that read "Way To Go Sheriff Joe," "It's Dangerous to Hire Day Laborers" or repeating bigoted shibboleths about Mexicans and disease.

But the incident with Stevens on the morning of Saturday, January 9, has upped the ante. Stevens, a nativist regular who has worn her sidearm to protests — even protests where Latino children were present — and has bragged to me about hunting illegal aliens near the border, either pulled her sidearm in self-defense or overreacted to an argument, depending on whom you ask.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, which responded with several patrol cars after it was phoned by Walmart security about 10:30 a.m., Stevens did not point her gun at anyone, but unholstered it when someone supposedly threw a rock at her. Stevens was not taken into custody because the cops didn't have any victims willing to come forward.

"No one came forward and said, 'She pointed that gun at me,'" said James Holmes, a PPD spokesman. "She had the weapon, she felt threatened, she pulled the weapon out, she pointed it in the air, and she told the crowd to stop. Then she pointed it toward the ground."

Holmes said Stevens claimed she had been pelted with rocks by the laborers and that they then advanced on her, forcing her to draw, as if she were a character in the HBO series Deadwood. When security arrived, she holstered her weapon and waited for the cops, who confiscated it briefly. They then gave it back to her, and she agreed to leave for the day.

Officer Holmes also told me there was one other witness — not a laborer — who corroborated elements of Stevens' story.

The day laborers I talked to the day after the incident sang a different tune. Though no one wanted to give a name, one man, whom I'll call Marcos, said Stevens pulled her gun after a verbal altercation with a motorist entering the Walmart lot from Thomas.

"[The driver] parked at the entrance and got out," Marcos said, through an interpreter. "The guy was with his family. He got out and started arguing [with Stevens]. They were talking back to each other. And that's when she pulled out the gun. We got close to see what was going on, and that's when she pointed the gun at us."

This motorist amscrayed after Stevens flashed the gun, according to the day laborer.

Marcos, who's been going to Walmart for the past four years to find work, said he didn't see anyone throwing stones at Stevens. He said jobs had become increasingly scarce over the past year and he'd been able to score only two, doing general cleanup work, over the past month.

He and the other jornaleros ignore Stevens and the others, he said, because the laborers' focus is on getting work from passing motorists.

"They just come to create problems," he said of the nativists. "We want to work, so we don't cause any problems. It's other people who get mad at them."

One witness, who is not a laborer, told me she saw the initial confrontation between the driver of an SUV and Stevens. She said she did not see anyone throwing rocks, and the only time she saw a gun in Stevens' hand was when Stevens was pointing it in the air.

Another laborer took a cell-phone photo of Stevens with her gun in the air and a daunting expression on her face. I was not able to reach Stevens, a member of the virulently anti-immigrant extremist group United for a Sovereign America and its biker wing Riders U.S.A., by press time.

Whites have become the racial scapegoat in this battle. No other race could possibly reject the hordes of illegal aliens from Mexico pouring into our country. Just look to what theyve done to Lou Dobbs. Hes been labeled racist, and accused of spreading hate and lies. They protested and lobbied to get him removed from CNN. And he wants a pathway to citizenship.

Why is it that the children of illegal aliens are granted the same rights and privileges as the descendants of slaves for whom the Fourteenth Amendment was written into the Constitution? Why should Black American children have to compete with millions of illegal alien children for seats in schools, quality attention from educators, diminishing social services and ever-distant opportunities? Why is the proud refrain, We Shall Overcome now muffled by the clamor of We Will Overwhelm and Take Your Country? If you seek answers, just look to the true racist groups like The National Council of La Raza (The Race), MeCHA, LULAC, and a terrorist group called the Mexica Movement. Their official platform says:

We totally reject all illegal European Colonial Squatter Occupation Borders on our continent. We also reject Colonialisms right to keep stealing the wealth of our lands. And we reject their artificial divisions of our people! This is a group that thinks America is their property, and anyone who doesnt fit their description should leave the country. What it also means is this is a hateful, racist and terrorist group, and it should be dealt with immediately. Of course, we will be called racist, nativist, and hateful.

Americans are fed up with the millions and millions of people who come here and do not want to assimilate or learn the language. People who send their earnings home to another country. People who are turning 2 bedroom apartments and single family homes into illegal camps housing up to 100. People who are stealing I.Ds and Social Security numbers from American taxpayers. People who are turning entire neighborhoods and city sections into Tijuanas, where half the store signs advertise llanteras usadas. People who are killing American citizens at the rate of 27 per day through murder, drunk driving, etc. People who expect and demand their kids to be taught in Spanish, and dont care what we Americans think. People who since 2000 have desecrated our National border parks with 35 million tons of trash.

People who decline to buy auto insurance or set enough aside to cover their liabilities. People who use our expensive hospital emergency rooms as their cold and sniffle clinics. The real complaint here is that those lazy Americans who still follow the rules find themselves increasingly squeezed and taxed, fingerprinted and regulated and licensed and strip-searched, and looked to as evil, while the illegals and their fraudulent support system thumbs their noses, disregards our wishes, and gives the finger to our laws.

Why would they want reform of a law theyve shown no intention of obeying? What they really want is belly up immigration surrender - free instant citizenship rights to all government welfare benefits for any of their people who can get here. Why is it dangerous that we cant discuss these things frankly in the open, without crippling euphemisms that disguise what this is really about?

Weve all seen the news coverage with millions of illegal aliens waving Mexican flags in our streets demanding to be awarded citizenship.

Weve heard the threats from the their seditious leaders elected to our offices. Weve seen the American flag burned, or hung upside down beneath the Mexican flag. They insist wed be nothing without them.

They call it Reconquista. The sleeping giant is starting to rise from its decades old slumber.

They are artificially encouraged by tens of millions of their illegal illegitimate brethren that victory is within reach. The coming conflict with these parasites in parasites clothing will end with the American citizens authorizing a mass banishment that will make President Eisenhowers Operation Wetback puny in comparison.

The illegal alien network support system and Mexican government will counter with you cant possibly deport 12 million people. Yes we can deport 30 million people. I suppose the counter stopped in the 1990s when we first heard the 12 million figure. There will a national movement. Legislators and Lawmakers will be forced to write new restrictions. To be an illegal alien in the United States will become difficult. People will self-deport. Those who dont will be arrested, and imprisoned. The national bleeding will then stop. I will no longer have to press 1 for my own language.

She (he) also had ever right to be shot.

No hitting below the belt! Touch your, er, gloves and come out fighting.

Lemons didn't mention it in his column, but he's written about Lynne being on a tranny website before. Lookie at this this quote:

Her bio states that she's "transsexual," is 65, and has been "living as female for years now." Her turn-ons are "TS's and CD's" (transsexuals and crossdressers). Her turn-offs are "extreme fruit cakes and open border people."

The Internet being what it is, I wanted to confirm this with Stevens directly. So I ran down to Wal-Mart this past Saturday morning and showed her the printouts of the Web page. She acknowledged the page and the photo as hers, but insisted that she only put it up because she wanted to talk to the transsexuals on the site. She denied being transsexual herself, and stated that she's biologically a woman and has always been so. From birth even.

"I'm a genuine, guaranteed lezzie," Stevens informed me. "I just have crazy TS girlfriends."

If you ask me, Lynne gives trannies and lesbvians a bad name.

Allow me, please, to second Coz's analysis.

There is a prohibition on the seriously mentally ill possessing, let alone brandishing firearms. I submit that this is exactly what we have here at the local WalMart. No good can come of this mess. One of these days there will be blood.

Lynne is a great American and a nice guy. Leave him alone.

The situation with these crazy Arpaio supporters pulling guns and assualting people with metal signs is simple. If the cops wont do anything then the people have to take the law into there own hands. Hell-its almost as if the cops are saying go for it. What if Lynne pulled the gun on their duaghter? It could easily happen next time. What will the cops do then? How will they justify it? Will they still stick up for these racist wacko's? Even if someone threw a rock at her she can't be pulling guns. It's the beginning of a blood bath and the blood will be all over Phoenix PD's hands when its over. They could've written her a ticket for careless endangerment at least. They keep doing nothing and they leave people no choice but to fight back.

Mark my words, one day someone who doesn't fuck around will end up shooting the dumb ass Lynne Stevens for waving a gun in someone's face that doesn't think it's funny, and see's it as the deadly force treat that it is.

The dumb bitch will have it coming.

A few weeks ago I might have agreed with Tina. However, since the Special Master was appointed, the only thing to appear on the op-ed pages of the Arizona Republic related to Arpaio and Thomas, have been Letters to the Editor defending the pair.

Perhaps they're standing silent until the Special Master speaks, but honestly, the purpose of a newspaper of record is not to stand mute in the face of injustice, like the RCA mascot waiting for its master's voice, but to continue to set standards and draw the line. Anything else suggests a contemptible lack of spine; and this, surely, will be picked up by those who look to the movers and shakers of the community for cues as to how to proceed. Don't forget that the powers of the Special Master are limited and that the position functions largely as that of a glorified referee. One might eventually see decisions that could give ammunition to other, more powerful entities, but don't expect the Special Master to chop heads. At best, we might see something out of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado", where Ko-Ko suggests: "Why should I kill you when making an affidavit that you've been executed will do just as well?"

Good luck to Mr. Gilman. Don't take no for an answer. If I say that the squeak wheel gets the grease, don't imagine for one moment that I am indulging in empty platitudes. And by all means, inform Mr. Lemons at each step in the proceedings, so that he might keep the public informed. There is nothing like the light of day to shrivel corruption.

In light of the powerful Republic editorials of late, that mince no words about the wrongdoings of Arpaio, the praise of the feds and Sheila Polk, etc., their wishy-washy article about what may or may not result from the federal grand jury didn't bother me all that much. I viewed it as a chicken bone thrown to the subjects of the investigation, that's all. Channel 5 and Channel 12 have also been doing a laudable job in their news reports.
