Signs of Life

Local artist listens to the universe

Many people believe that when faced with a tough decision – like whether to change careers or dump your boyfriend – the universe gives you signs. A medical school billboard, a giant exit arrow, or a love letter from your BFF in your guy’s underwear drawer can determine your future. Local artist Kaori Takamura created a visual interpretation of life’s signs for her solo exhibit “The STREET,” currently on display at eye lounge (find gallery access through MADE art boutique, 922 North Fifth Street).

Says Takamura, “As you make decisions, you live your life, and as a result, your decisions bring you to where you are now -- much like following the various street signs down life’s path.” The show features weathered road signs Takamura created by repeatedly scraping and adding layers of paint to canvas as well as black-and-white photos of the signs staked in natural settings, like Bartlett Lake.

Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Jan. 13. Continues through Feb. 13, 2010
