Okay, so Medea's Ghost isn’t that kind of ghost. It is, instead, a world premiere of a new play by Arizona playwright Micki Shelton contains, according to the firm disclaimers issued by Theatre Artists Studio, “mature themes and adult content.”

Sounds promising. So does the synopsis, which promises a jailhouse story about one woman’s horrible crime and another gal’s deep forgiveness. Shelton’s script was inspired by the real-life story of Susan Smith, the 23-year-old South Carolina mother of two who made national headlines back in the mid-‘90s for murdering her kids (by strapping them into her car, then driving it into a lake) and then blaming it on another person.

Talk about some bold subject matter for a first-time writer. Hey, we like her moxie.

Medea’s Ghost continues through February 13 with curtain times at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tell them Dionysus sent you.

Fridays-Sundays, 2 & 7:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 22. Continues through Feb. 7, 2010
