Rosanne Cash

It's been 20 years since Johnny's little girl broke from her country roots. Yup, Rosanne Cash was just as proto-punk as her old man when she moved to New York City, started writing jagged, introspective folk songs, and married a guy named Leventhal. I mean, it doesn't get less country than that, right? Sadly, she also stopped selling records — that is, until the release of The List (2009), a tribute album inspired by a list of essential country songs handed down by her father when Roseanne was still a novice songwriter. Featuring session work by Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jeff Tweedy, and Rufus Wainwright, the disc was a chain-mover on both the Billboard country (number five) and rock (number 8) album charts and heralded Cash's return as true crossover talent. (Back in 1982, her Seven Year Ache long play charted on both the country and pop lists before the Taylor Swifts of the world made such feats commonplace.) Fresh from a trio of shows in Sweden, the heir to the Cash musical empire is ready to resume her comeback in the land that made her. Like they say, you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl.
