Death Becomes Her

Laurie Notaro returns to the fiction circuit with a haunting read

The life of Lucy Fisher, the wispy heroine of Laurie Notaro’s Spooky Little Girl, is quite messed up. In Notaro’s second fiction book, the protagonist gets kicked to the curb by her fiancé, she’s fired from her job, and then she’s run over by a bus. Emerging into the afterlife, Lucy Fisher finds herself with additional ghostly lessons to learn.

Sheesh. What’s a mostly dead Idiot Girl to do? We won’t divulge, but we will say that the waggish Notaro is up to her old tricks, bedazzling a true-ish story with equal parts hilarity and hand wringing.

The Arizona ex-patriot and New York Times best-selling author reads from and signs copies of Spooky Little Girl at Changing Hands Bookstore.
