Megafaun

Megafaun. Mega-fun? Megaphone? Mega-fawn, as in a big gigantic deer? How are you supposed to pronounce the name of this band? I have no idea. But I do know this: It doesn't matter. Whether you can pronounce it or not, you're sure to have good time at this show — if you like dancing and fun. Last in town as an opener for Bon Iver, this trio born and bred in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and now based in North Carolina, is sure to make you happy. Formerly known as DeTarmond Edison, while they were all playing together with Justin Vernon from Bon Iver, Megafaun, the remaining members of the band, will give you a super-dose of folk rock, banjo, and a little mambo-jambo to keep you moving. With songs like "Worried Mind," which urges you to "come on, ease your mind," and "Kaufmann's Ballad," a '60s-sounding piece that will lull you into an acoustic state of joy with a Crosby, Stills and Nash vibe, Megafaun is here to please. And if they do anything like their Bon Iver encore, coming together for a magnificent rendition of Loudon Wainwright's "Swimming Song" — the ultimate stop-screwing-around-and-just-do-it song — Megaufaun will be all you hoped they would be: mega-fun.
