Thrown for a Curve

UA delivered a slider when we were expecting fastball

Before ASU Baseball squared off against the University of Arizona on April 20, we were so excited to write about the Sun Devils’ certain win that we blew deadline to listen to the game on the radio. After they took care of business, our angle was going to be that the number-one ranked Sun Devils owned the Wildcats in hardball of late (in 2009, ASU swept UA in five games by a combined score of 63-19), and the dominance was continuing in 2010.

Then the Devils lost. Oops.

So here we are, rushing to get this piece over to the copy desk and scrambling for another approach since the two will meet again at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4. How about this instead: wait until football season, Wildcats? Oh, wait, UA beat ASU last year in football. ASU’s academics are better than UA’s? Oh, crap, that’s probably false, too.

Nevermind. Just go to tonight’s game at Packard Stadium to see two of the nation’s best.
