"Higher search rates for minorities were not justified by higher rates of transporting contraband. In fact, on average, whites were more likely to be carrying contraband than Native Americans, Middle Easterners, Hispanics, and Asians on all major Arizona highways. African Americans were at least twice as likely as whites to be searched on all six interstate segments, despite the fact that the rate of contraband seizures for African Americans and whites was similar."

Keep in mind that these stops occurred after the state cops knew their behavior was under court-ordered scrutiny. A federal court order mandated that racial profiling be studied, and the troopers continued pulling over minorities and searching them as if Bull Connor were their chief.

Arizona's highway patrolmen were not isolated bad actors when it came to racial profiling.

An Opportunity to Stand Up

Village Voice Media is underwriting the cost of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona's forthcoming litigation against Senate Bill 1070, as well as two other immigration lawsuits.

Senate Bill 1070 mandates that a police officer who has "reasonable suspicion" that someone is a Mexican must detain that person. The cop must ask: Are your papers in order?

Similar legislation is under discussion in seven other statehouses.

Arizona has chosen to insist that all law enforcement in the state adopt the police-state tactics of infamous Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Beyond the issue of immigration, Village Voice Media's journalists in Phoenix have been targets of the sheriff. Writers, editors, and our publisher have been stonewalled and harassed. The pursuit of public records has led to the filing of criminal charges against a reporter. The entire editorial staff was the target of a criminal grand jury, and the identities of our online readers were the subject of a subpoena. That particular fight led to the arrests and jailing of New Times founders Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey.

The lawsuit from those arrests is in the appellate court.

For the past couple of years, Village Voice Media's newspapers have helped finance the ACLU's efforts to protect the rights of immigrants. Much work beyond the lawsuit remains on the immigration front.

We would like to extend an invitation to you, our readers, to join in this struggle against the cracker policies of Arizona politicians and certain elements within law enforcement typified by Sheriff Arpaio.

More About

National studies — seven in recent years — have documented repeatedly that while minorities transport contraband at significantly lower rates than whites, minorities are, nonetheless, stopped and searched at dramatically higher rates than whites.

A Justice Department analysis in 2002 found that more than 8 percent of blacks stopped were searched, and of those searched, 3.3 percent were found to be holding.

Whites were stopped and searched only 2.5 percent of the time, a fraction as often blacks. Yet whites were found in possession of drugs in 14.5 percent of their searches, or nearly 400 percent more often than blacks.

Not only are minorities stopped more frequently, they are searched at alarming rates.

As noted in the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona's conclusion of its 2008 report: "An analysis from 1999, conducted by the Attorney General of New Jersey, determined that discretionary consent searches of cars on the turnpike were even more racially disparate than initial stops: 77.2 [percent] of all 'consent searches' were of African Americans and other minorities.

"An extensive study of 175,000 pedestrian stops by the New York City Police Department found a highly disproportionate rate of minority stops. The Office of the Attorney General of New York State, which conducted the research, determined that: (1) African Americans were stopped six times more frequently than whites; (2) African Americans were stopped at a rate more than 10 times their percentage of the population; and (3) stops of African Americans were less likely to result in arrests than stops of whites."

In other words, while whites committed the crimes, it was blacks who were hassled.

Although the DPS' report in 2007 mostly agreed with the ACLU's findings that emerged from the lawsuit's settlement research, the Highway Patrol denied there was a problem.

According to the state's expert witness, Dr. Robin S. Engel, racial disparities in enforcement "may be explained by legitimate factors unmeasured by these data."

She went on to list a severity of traffic offenses, motorist attitudes, and socio-economic factors as possible influences left unmeasured. "Until I can get into the mind of an officer," said Engel, "I cannot determine whether he or she is making stops based on race."

But, with the passage of Senate Bill 1070, it will no longer be necessary to get into the mind of an officer. Law enforcement is now instructed to pull over any brown-skinned motorist if there is reasonable suspicion he or she is in Arizona illegally.

As a result of the judicial settlement in the ACLU lawsuit against the DPS, there is an unprecedented record of racial profiling by state troopers.

While such documentation does not exist with other law enforcement agencies in Arizona, grounds for concern are, nonetheless, ample.

Four days after Brewer signed SB 1070, the city of Phoenix announced the establishment of a citizen commission to review allegations of "race-related civil rights abuses" by Phoenix police.

Despite concrete efforts by the Phoenix Police Department to improve relations within minority neighborhoods, the impression remains that city cops brutalize blacks and Latinos. This sense was aggravated in March when black city Councilman Michael Johnson was handcuffed and arrested in a predawn fight with a white cop. Johnson, a former PPD homicide detective, said he was assaulted while investigating an early-morning fire at a neighbor's home.

Councilman Johnson claims that complaints of minority constituents regarding aggressive policing often go uninvestigated. In the South Mountain Precinct, 82 percent of the complaints come from black and Hispanic residents.

If concerns about the Phoenix Police Department's relations with the city's blacks and Hispanics raise questions about their coming implementation of SB 1070, there is little ambiguity when it comes to Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his deputies.

One week after Brewer signed the controversial legislation, Arpaio conducted his 15th roundup of undocumented Hispanics.

Arpaio has explained clearly how he and his deputies determine which individuals are brown Mexicans and which are brown Americans.

"If you look like you came from Mexico," Arpaio told listeners of KPHO radio, that will get you searched.

On national television, Glenn Beck was informed by Arpaio of his standard: "If local law enforcement comes across some people that have erratic, or scared, or whatever, you know, they're worried . . . And if they have, their speech, whatever they look like, if they just look like they came from another country, we can take care of that situation."

Last year, Arpaio informed the GQ magazine that Mexicans are contagious.

WTF? Why don't we just conquer the world and make everyone who lives in it an American. Would that satisfy you?

Because it's okay for mexicans(or anyone for that matter) to come to our country. But if we decide to go to theirs its not okay.

Regarding the phrase "if they lack proper documentation of their status in America"; This makes it unclear whether or not the person had valid documentation and misplaced it or they never had it at all. Obviously there is a huge difference between the two situations. To be more clear to your readers, simply replace your phrase with the phrase 'if they are illegally in America". That will be less confusing to your readers.

A Hispanic woman {here legally) cries out "THAT'S NOT FAIR!!, THAT'S NOT FAIR!!". Her husband was arrested, at his place of employment, for using stolen ID (a felony). With papa gone who will support the family? That argument won't fly otherwise why not empty our jails and prisons of inmates who were the bread winners? Without a ligitimate argument for breaking the law anti SB1070 folks desperately cry "racism and profiling" A baseless emotionally loaded argument that only stirs up anger and frustration on both sides of the issue. A mexican man (here illegally) ignores a NO TURN ON RED sign and is stopped by the police. His vehicle is impounded because he has no auto insurance. He is given a citation for the red light, no ID, no driver licence and no insurance and signs the promise to appear line. This man is now in the wind. When SB1070 goes into effect he is sent back to Mexico. Where is the "racism And profiling" in that?

OPINION: "DECISIONS". The Arizona law is based solely on discrimination. It is the basis for millions of future lawsuits against the state of Arizona. There, Mexican people live in fear of getting out to the streets, they're in panic whether they're legal or not, due to Jan Brewer's anti-Mexican actions. My father was once an illegal immigrant. One day he crossed illegally from Mexico to this country. I APPLAUD his brave decision to search for a better life. Thanks to him, THIS BELOVED COUNTRY CAN COUNT ON ONE MORE electrician, a math teacher, a civil engineer, a nurse, a paralegal, a data analyst, a tax preparer, a physicist & nuclear engineer, a clinical psychologist, and me, a truck driver. All of us HAVE BEEN GOOD FOR THE OVERALL U.S. ECONOMY. My father made a smart decision!Illegal immigrants and their children buy houses, cars, insurances, everything in the stores, this makes the economy to prosper. Illegal immigrants and their children spend billions of dollars in the fast food restaurants, not only adding an extra billionaire-revenue to this industry, but creating thousands of extra jobs to cope with the clientele in these places.McDONALDS, WENDY'S, BURGER KING: Stand up and defend the illegal immigrants from people like JAN BREWER and her allies. She is too blind to see that WE DON'T SHOP IN ARIZONA ANYMORE and that she is hurting that state more than anything else. Perhaps she is waiting to have a heart attack and have her life being saved by the son of an illegal immigrant, yes, the cardiologist-in-turn in the emergency room. And maybe then, she will clearly see her stupid decisions. ~Yolanda Miranda.

I just can't resist making one more comment. Did you know that California law is virtually identical to Arizona's? Most laws are no longer enforced in San Francisco of course, which is reflected in the rapidly depreciating quality of life there. For those who have never compared the two (and from the looks of it this journalist never has) here are both laws side by side. Perhaps we should boycott bankrupted California as well:

Arizona immigration law states:(1) Where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the person.(2) The person’s immigration status shall be verified with the Federal Government pursuant to 8 United States Code Section 1373( c ). If an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States is convicted of a violation of state or local law, on discharge from imprisonment or assessment of any fine that is imposed, the alien shall be transferred immediately to the custody of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement or the United States Customs and Border Protection.California immigration law states:(1) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws.(b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the following:(2) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status.

Wow, what exactly IS your agenda San Francisco? This absurd take on Arizona's law makes San Franciscans look like lunatics to the rest of the country who see the forced flooding of the U.S. with illegal aliens as nothing less than a plutocratic power grab. Senate Bill 1070 says the exact same thing as the federal immigration law does and does not in any way single out Hispanics. The only way in which Mexico would be singled out is that they currently supply about 51% of all U.S. illegal aliens.

Which brings me back to my first question. What do you get out of attempting to strong-arm a state into bending to your will? California gets completely bent out of shape when they are asked to conform to Federal laws, so why should you have the right to do so to others? Racism is a ruse here - the U.S. once had a fairly even distribution of income according to the GINI index, but now it has the worst OF ANY NATION IN THE WORLD! Guess who is number 2? (Hint: it's Mexico). The Mexican government benefits by encouraging its poor and darker skinned to flee the country to the U.S. and the U.S. power elite benefits from a flood of poorly educated, desperate people from a corrupt military dictatorship (democratic only in name, much like the U.S. now)whose votes can be bought. Do the rest of us a favor and read a few history books - U.S. and Central/South American. Then maybe things may be illuminated for you. I am former California who got tired of being told what to think and fled for greener pastures.

This story is once again; highly incensing, accusatory, and not entirely factual. But; this seems to be the norm with a liberal biased reporter I suppose. The fact is, that the officers are held liable. They cannot bother you or even approach you unless you are visibly committing a crime. Only after they have you placed under arrest may they even "inquire" as to your status, if they detect that you "MIGHT" be here illegally. If you furnish a drivers license, or some other stuff, there usually isn't a problem. But if you can't produce a valid license or other documents, then you are subject to detention to determine your status. If they determine your illegal, they then must hand you over to the INS people.

The problem is that so many liberals; along with Mr. Obama and many other in the democratic side of the houses, want open borders. So they scream like this; and whine like this to muddy up the discussion. The fact is you can't have open borders without breaking the constitution. So this will be a very embattled front for years to come between liberals and conservatives. Meanwhile; the schools are churning out these "journalists" who have more bias than an NPN transistor with 12 volts on the collector and base, and emitter at ground! In lay terms; that means saturated!

Three words here. Read The Law!

For those that read it, and compare to federal law, they quite literally mirror one another. I read them. How about you?

wow, talk about HYPERBOLE. The law merely mirrors what Federal says. The police are allowed to do no more than they already do anywhere else, including Minnesota, where we are required to produce identification if pulled over for running a stop sign, for example or are already in commission of a crime. They can't just go up to anyone for no reason and ask for their id. Please stop lying and trying to scare everyone.

My wife is a legal immigrant. I am white. She is from a non-border country. I went thru many whoops and a lot of time and money to get her here legally. I had to vouch that I would pay for her and not let her use the "government system" for anything. She is now a US Citizen and proud to be here. I am insulted that people are saying that the people who come and stay here ILLEGALLY have rights. It is an insult to every person who does THE RIGHT THING. I am all for immigration, but legally. Another thing... my wife works AND pays taxes, is happy to pay them because America is giving her what her country could not... a chance for a better life!

******NEWS FLASH******

Whites to be racially profiled, stopped, detained, questioned, forced to show proof of no wrongdoing.

Due to the disastrous and devastating effects of white people, who have willingly and unremorsefully ruined our economy, coast, jobs, name and reputation abroad, other countries, and on and on...(BP, AIG, CitiGroup, Goldman Sachs, Bush, Cheney, Haliburton, and on and on...) whites will now be targeted and required to show proof that they are not a part of any of these groups. Since it is white people, and not undocumented Latino workers, that are the ones who are truly destroying this country, they will be completely happy in adhering to the checks and searches, especially if they have nothing to hide.

Effective immediately.

These are the folks who have helped dupe this whole state into hysteria about us being invaded by hordes of criminal aliens...and ALEC helped, no doubt - see how compounding the criminal justice systems' mission and duty with the profit motive can actually harm a community, or a state, or a country - much less a people.

This will probably tell you a lot about the corporate devils wining and dining your politicians and "economic leaders" into a deal on a new detention center (or prison) to enhance your community...bringing with them all their lobbyists to make sure that enough people remain criminalized to justify keeping those detention centers open - don't think that if they need bodies to fill those cell bunks they won't criminalize your kids next...-------------------------------Private Prison Firm Exploiting Broken Immigration SystemProgressive States Network.org

As a Service and Employees International Union (SEIU)campaignhighlights, one key player profiting off the nation's broken immigration system is the private prison firm, Corrections Corporation of America (CCA). CCA operates and profits significantly from private prisons across the country, many of which house immigrants in detention, a kind of legal limbo in which immigrants are imprisoned while their cases are being considered, or who are in the process of being deported.

Roughly 40 percent of CCA's profits stem from operating jails that house immigrants. In fact, the corporation earned over $1.7 billion in revenuein 2009 alone -- much of it from contracts with the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the US Marshals Office, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons to cope with the influx of nonviolent immigrants in the nation's prison system. CCA has also been a long-time funder of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)and memberof its Private Sector Executive Committee, which advocates on behalf of CCA to push prison privatization as a model for states.

While most believe prisons are operated by state or federal governments, they are increasingly privatized. As the number of immigration prosecutions continue to skyrocketand comprehensive immigration reform languishes in Washington, DC, this makes the business of operating prisons all the more lucrative for private firms. According to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), immigration prosecutions reached record levelsin federal fiscal year 2009. The Department of Homeland Security initiated 67,994 immigration prosecutions that year alone, a 459 percent increase from 2000 and a 973 percent increase from 1990.

Filling Up Prisons with Non-Violent Immigrants: In addition, federal immigration authorities are increasingly targeting nonviolent immigrants, whose only offense is attempting to unlawfully cross the border, via efforts such as Operation Streamline, which focuses on apprehending nonviolent border-crossers. According to a May 2010 studyby the Warren Institute at the University of California, Berkeley Law School, projects such as Operation Streamline that focus on immigrants who haven't committed any crime in the US divertprecious federal resources from apprehending drug cartels and human traffickers that frequently operate with impunity along stretches of the US-Mexico border and are responsible for much of the violence in the region. These record numbers of nonviolent immigrants are, in turn, filling jails and immigration detention centers to capacity: contributing to growing costs to states and higher profits for private prison companies like CCA.

The Failures of Prison Privatization: Both federal and state governments have utilized private firms to operate prisons, despite evidence of systematic failures. Privatization only exacerbates the challenges faced by states, communities, and families dealing with the broken immigration system. For example, the Florida Center for Fiscal and Economic Policy findsthat there is no compelling evidence that prison privatization has led to savings, while the Private Corrections Institute analyzes several issueswith privatization, which include “major riots, sex abuse scandals… improper billing by private prison companies… employment law violations, higher employer turnover rates, increased levels of prisoner-on-prisoner and prisoner-on-staff violence, lack of transparency and public accountability, and higher recidivism rates for inmates released from privately-operated prisons.”

When privatization involves prisons and detention centers, the profiteering comes at the expense of constitutional safeguards, democratic oversight, and public trust. In this case, it also undermines legislative efforts to promote progressive immigration reform. Lawmakers should take action to prevent such debacles from occurring by either halting failed privatization schemes. For example, Indiana Rep. Gail Riecken's introduced a billto end privatization of social services in her state. Legislators can also consider requiring augmented transparency of state contracting, much like initiatives in Alabama, Hawaii, and Vermont.

1st I'm HISPANIC and I'm in favor of upholding the law. Yes, MEXICANS were here before some of the territories became states but they're not their territories. Its like if I sell my house and expect the new owner to just let me continue to live there and come and go as I please. Also, no one has asked the Mexican president how his country handles people coming into Mexico from other countries trying to get north to cross the border. Many men have been tortured and killed by Mexican police and coyotes. Women are raped and killed everyday so let's not loose sight of the fact that Mexico violates human rights everyday and yet they want FAIR treatment from the U.S. government. This isn't about racial profiling its about a FEDERAL law that's been on the books for a long time. Growing up in NY "la migra" would come to factories and apartment buildings asking for everyone's papers and if you had them then you were left alone if not they rounded you up and deported you, this is back in the '70s so this is not new. If you have your papers in line and have nothing to hide then it shouldn't matter. By hiding your undocumented "relatives" and friends YOU ARE committing a federal crime. Mexicans shouldn't have special treatement because no other Central or South American country does and unfortunately the majority of immigrants are Mexican and that makes it bad for the rest because the GRINGOS can't tell us apart to them we're all Mexican. I'll be carring my U.S. passport and won't mind showing it to officers if they so request, that's their job and where my tax dollar goes. Illegal immigrants don't pay TAXES.

Legal Vs Ethical

SB1070, appears on its surface to be legal and until I hear otherwise from a federal court, I'll concede that. That doesn't mean it's ethical. Clearly, there is an ethics dispute between those who agree with the law and those who oppose.

The issue of real ethical concern is police protection. No society can afford an environment where a segment of the population has limited access to police protection because it targets that population for victimization by other criminals. This is the reason why enforcement of immigration is best left to the Federal Government.

If SB1070 is not repealed and local law enforcement does not concede the enforcement of immigration laws to the federal government then what can an illegal immigrant female do if she suffers from domestic violence, rape or forced prostitution? The law provides that the police should not attempt to determine race if it impedes an investigation but the section providing this point is clearly under written and ambiguous. Regardless, I am unconvinced that under the current adversarial relationship, the victim would seek police protection. Moreover, many children of illegal immigrants are full citizens and should be respected as such but as minors to illegal immigrants, they also cannot seek police protection for fear of disclosing the identity and legal status of their guardians. I am not looking forward to the inevitable day when we discover that SB-1070 and child prostitution, rape, abuse and intimidation are business partners.

We are citizens of a modern democracy, not ruthless animals. The law is an abhorrence because it is a gift to our cities most violent criminals and gangs.

Perhaps the law is legal, but is that all that our laws need to be?

Hey Michael I just wanted to comment briefly on your article entitled “Hopeless”. First of all you state that Mexican immigrants are part of “the fabric of this nation”. Of course this is true. Immigration from all countries is part of the fabric of this nation. Nobody says immigration has to stop. Just do it legally.

You refer to illegal immigration as a “so-called” problem. As a resident of Arizona I find that statement insulting. All of the statistics regarding the problems are very easily verifiable. Statistics on crime are public record. The immigrants drive up our health and auto insurance. They cost this country and state millions of dollars in public services and pay minimal taxes in return. Every cent of taxpayer money that is spent on the citizens from another country is money that could have gone to helping our citizens.

You make reference to studies on racial profiling, many of which didn’t even occur in Arizona and they were prior to SB1060. This is an issue with the performance of the officers involved, not the laws that they enforce.

Much of the emphasis of the article is dependent on your statement that SB1060 allows law enforcement officers to stop anybody due to the color of their skin. I have to assume one of two explanations for this statement. Either you did not read the bill or you are lying. The bill clearly states that there first must be a legal stop. The addendum to the bill makes it very clear that racial profiling is illegal and makes reference to the federal law that makes it illegal. If racial profiling occurs after the bill it’s not because of the bill, it’s despite the bill. Legal stop, reasonable suspicion, then check papers. There is a serious problem with illegal immigration and race is an aspect of the problem but it is not a problem due to race. The issue cannot be ignored because race is involved it needs to be addressed despite race being involved.

But then you all serve to make me very grateful I am a U.S. born caucasian and NOT a WHITEMAN. I found it more productive and self-respectful to use my natural intelligence to better my position in life, while you whitebread shit-for-brains busy yourselves hating anyone you don't know or are obviously intimidated by. You Nazis and Aryans really don't see how pathetically funny you are, do you ? You idolize Sheriff Arpaio who is the most bizarre elected official in history. A singularly inept, corpulent little joke of a man who plays cops and robbers with real guns. How nice. And you stupid bastards think he's great. Mexicans sneaking over the border are trying to survive the best and least intrusive way they can. I can respect that. Then the Great White Americans get all scared. I can laugh at that. OH NO, THE BEANERS ARE COMING, DON'T LET 'EM GET ME, MOMMIE. Sad.

They spit in our faces and deficate on our laws! Kick them out now! And there is NOTHING wrong with RACISM, hell they have Latino Culture month, can't we have a White Culture month? If you say the word White you are a Racist, BULLSHIT that's what the Liberals have rammed down the mouth of America, I say sweep them into the toilet of history too! God Bless you Sheriff Joe, BUST those BEANS!

Hey Joe

This is easy, just ask everyone for their papers, the whites ,reds ,blacks and even the fine mexican folks. Why make a big deal out of something so simple?

The Arizona police won’t be enforcing the law against people near the border running north in the desert. They'll be looking to nab Hispanics—anywhere, anytime, and for any reason. It is racial profiling, and racism, pure and simple.

All types of profiling, racial and otherwise, have been the MO in Arizona for years. Scalia and the boys made sure they legalized that over a decade ago. It's called a "pretext stop". Profiling has already reduced protection against unreasonable search and seizure to a historical footnote, and now it is official state terror policy in AZ.

Those law enforcement methods will be okay with many as long as it’s not them, their family, or friends who are the targets. (More votes for the good governor) By the time they are, it will be too late.

It's sad to see Arizona go for the "papers please" approach that will lock up Mexican border-crossers only to release them to the feds, after which they will likely recross with better fake IDs. Meanwhile Arizona ignores the Invisible Elephant, the incurably corrupt Mexican govt. whose sweetheart deals with the U.S. establishment make the press treat it with kid gloves while it keeps the rich on top of the poor, crushing them until they cross the border despite all difficulties and obstacles, hoping for a fairer shake, only to run into a Sheriff Arpaio. Any real solution requires dissolving the Mexican govt. Learn about the bipartisan Megamerge Dissolution Solution. http://go.to/megamerge

Yeah, due to their lying, they can collect from USA government every month...they kow loopholes; the men go to work in some field and work for a USA farmer, (who also knows the ropes)...to not have to pay employees higher workers, who work, 6 days a week and earn more than you....no, that is not enough, so, they send the woman to go o SSI, and wefare dept, lie, that they do not know where the daddy is at...yes, they also have a county van for disabled...so, that the man will not haveto pay those services; they do know how to lie, and are very good at it, false ids, ssi #s, making up false names (not the one their parents gave them at birth...yet, if you go to some fraud line, because your own children are hungry..."Yes, we will look int this matter..." yet, nothing has been done about this...because we do have INS bringing in their own...know how to manipulate that computer, know the rules, regulations, the laws, have government power (who are not aware of this) ...because they are experts in lying, providing false documents to our govenment...they know how to lie...

Pamila
Pamila

You are very correct...because, they eat way better than you;;;see their bodies...it is not beer...it is lots of food...because when it is Christmas...yeah they already got their welfare check, laughing at all of us...they are first to receive Christmas presents, which are really supposed to go to those in real need...They know how to lie...they know how to lie and falsify documents...then those who do work for the government, INS...many brought their own from Mexico...yeah, just do not admit that you ae married;when that county employee asks you, "Where is the dad?" Reply, I do not know...etc...mean while, yes they do get food stamps, medical...oh yes, when people want to feed the hungry at XMAS, Thanksgiving...usually they are first in line...because they know how to lie...

Pamfila
Pamfila

Look, you cannot be naive, as to these things...look, when many came to this country, speaking of parents...now, they do have offspring who are USA citizens...have been highly trained through our colleges, high schools...a good one, you wil be taught how to write a fraudulent check in school...professors only want young students to NOT forge, to know how to write a check honestly...nope, I am so sorry because now you do have illegal parents (who cannot speak English) but do now depend on their offspring because now they do know English, have learned the USA culture...etc...no, it is not as bad as that demonized 911 event; this is now illegals desrespecting our USA government; now they are using other means to protect their own illegal families, who have been here illegally and still cannot speak the American language...their goal...they only want everything free...they do not want to spend because, you see, that is going to end...you see, America has lots of strength...when you see some county van, come in and take a so called person from Mexico to go and obtain free medical services, lie to our government for free servics, yet the husband bringing home almost the same pay, equivalent to our own Law Enforcemnt, yet lie...yes, this is a very big problem...

Pamfila
Pamfila

Look!! Are you an American citizen who will fight for this country, yes or no??? Stop!! Please stop blaming our Law Enforcement...if you do not care to respect the laws of the USA, codes, statutory laws...You do not even belong here....yet, you receive welfare money? Hello??? Just, please do not disrespect our Law Enforcement!!!! How dare you even speak nonsense (yes, their is freedom of speech...to your advantage??? and, Please, when you downgrade our jounalism...you have to know what you are talking about!!!! Please prove yourself that you have education and has struggled to go to some college, university....If it wasn't for the USA, where would you be???

Pamfia
Pamfia

I just hope that you can prove yourself that you can be a better President...look at yourself: #1, degrading our USA President of the United States of America???? Please do some studying and think about you have written so that many will hear you out??? Many, many, hundreds, millions...do happen to love our President, our country...most of all, to go overseas to defend this country who eithr gives you your monthly check,SSI...food stamps???

Please, how often does that happen, an occasional exception to the rule. More often the case they come here with a 4th grade education, no English w/no desire to learn it,no desire to assimilate while waving the red, white and green. You are horribly incorrect about the immigration having positive affects on the economy. Explain the positive effects of ILLEGAL ALIENS causing the closure of 28 hospitals in CA by receiving treatment and not paying the bill? How abouts the facts vs. your biased, opinionated delusional garbage. Look at the money they send back to the toilet called Mexico. Latest stats show ILLEGAL ALIEN persence cost the American TAX PAYER 113 Billion dollars! How is that positive.

teobuneo
teobuneo

Your a racist pig too! Mindlessly repeating FAIR lies doesn't make them true you idiot. In answer to your original question to San Franciscans, I was a resident there. They are rational, thinking and caring humans who respect other cultures unlike you and your hate filled crowd! Your statement, "The Mexican government benefits by encouraging its poor and darker skinned to flee the country to the U.S" clearly demonstrates to all your hate and intolerance for the dark skinned and poor amongst us. What an incredibly disgusting hate monger you show yourself to be Julia.

teobuneo
teobuneo

Why don't you do what you claim to have already done and read the law? You obviously haven't yet spout all your ridiculous nonsense anyhow. Estupido!

teobuneo
teobuneo

Hey Buchanan, Your just as responsible arguing such nonsense. When will you people ever learn? These politicians lead you around by the nose, feeding you hate filled lies and you dimwits just lap it up like pigs at the trough. Sad, it's just sad that Glenn Beck and the Fox propaganda machine can influence so many of you illiterates with their insanity!

teobuneo
teobuneo

You poor delusional fool. The fact that you repeat the lies coming out of FAIR and all the other nativist hate monger groups just demonstrates your lack of education and of any ability to objectively analyze facts. The lies that you state as fact show you to be nothing more than a rabid racist who is terrified by cultures other than your own twisted whites only club. What a complete loser. The fact that the illegals are able to work and send back all that money to quote you, "the toilet called Mexico." shows the initiative that they have to better themselves and improve the lives of their families in Mexico. And your quote demonstrates to the world what a small minded little racist leech you actually are James! Where are these fantasy stats that you spout you hateful liar?
