War of the Rosies

Meet an American icon

We women of today think we’re real tough. But compared to the women of the 1940s, we’re big-time wimps. These American ladies had to say goodbye to their men, keep a home, work in factories, and look smashing at the end of the day. They did it with the help of fictional character Rosie the Riveter, who donned overalls, a bandana, and bulging biceps as she adorned propaganda posters of the time.

Get to know this American icon at the “Rosie the Riveter and the Arsenal of Democracy” lecture with Steve Hoza, an archivist, film consultant, and World War II historian. The thirty-minute presentation is part of the “In the Mood” fashion exhibition.
