More About

Tributes to John Denver run the gamut. Take the singer-songwriter's chart-topping hit song "Leaving on a Jet Plane" for example. It's been reborn as a rock song, reggae song, and even a punk song, covered by Liza Minnelli, Chantal Kreviazuk, Slightly Stoopid, Sister Hazel, Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, and Eve 6 — just to name a few. "Leaving on a Jet Plane" will come to life in an interesting fashion this weekend with an array of musicians. Singer Jim Curry, three of Denver's former bandmates, and the Phoenix Symphony will pay homage to the late country-folk star's body of work at Phoenix Symphony Hall Friday and Saturday. Denver's legacy will be ignited in a grand symphonic fashion with selections such as "Rocky Mountain High," "Back Home Again," "Sunshine on My Shoulders" and "Thank God I'm a Country Boy." Somewhere, Denver is sure to be smiling down on this colorful tribute show.

If the Phoenix concerts were anything like the concert he performed with the Kansas City Symphony a year ago, they were probably great. Saw Curry in Kansas City and was blown away by the quality of the show. His band is outstanding, and having such a legendary conductor, Lee Holdridge, was icing on the cake. I've been to several John Denver tribute concerts since John passed away and this concert definately exceeds any others in quality. Jim's sensitivity to John's memory and music draws you in. He is not "imitating" John, but instead brings a true tribute to Denver's memory. Jim's voice is excellent. I plan on paying a lot of money to go see him again when he performs with the Cincinnati Pops Symphony this November. Don't let the fact that this is a "tribute" concert keep you from attending one of Curry's concerts. You have no idea what you would be missing. He is wonderful!
