Gee, I wonder where the editor stands on the issue. May I remind the editor that Native Americans were the first to live in both what is now the United States and Mexico. The Spaniards claimed the land, followed by the new population of Mestizos. During the battle for Texas Independence, equal numbers of Hispanics and Anglos, alike, were engaged in the battle for the Alamo, San Jacinto, etc. At the time, Texas not only included what is now the geographical area that we know, but also areas of Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming. The Mexican people are, assuredly, known for their willingness to work in difficult conditions. From what I have experienced, those who are willing to go through the long process of obtaining citizenship are also those who become the most responsible and contributive members of society. If someone comes to our country illegally then they really do not want to be Americans. They want to be someone from another country living in the US. Let us also not forget that there is more at stake than holding back drug dealers when it comes to our borders. Has anyone ever noticed how many terrorists have crossed into our country from Mexico? This is also a matter of national security. Please stop pointing the race finger at all who agree with Arizona's efforts. This problem goes much deeper.

Who we need to look at is everyone who could be a suspect, including Minutemen like Chris Simcox. Chris Simcox threatened to kill his wife and children recently and now is on the run. He also had ties to Shawna Forde, the murderer of Bresinia Flores. There are too many unanswered questions and I have long ago asked them. This man did not struggle with his attacker, he was killed by someone he KNEW. I want the real killer to be found...until we know for sure who did it the rest is propaganda. We know that the widow was clear that they also didn´t want the Minutemen on their ranch and that might be motive to kill him not to mention using his death as propaganda.

As you know, Rob and I were schoolmates through out the Douglas schools, Cochise College, and the U of A. Though we only saw each other occasionally in adulthood, he was still my boyhood friend....and I miss him.
Our very best to you and your family Sue. It is tough, yes, but you have a boat-load of folks pulling for you and remembering Rob. I will look in on you soon.

Hitler, also, declared war on another race and demanded temporary power in order to, supposedly, protect the freedom and well-being of the german people. Basically, he got to suspend civil rights of jews that he never intended to be temporary. Just as it is amazing that Germans were willing to suspend other people civil rights 1070b does the same. Now it is azmazing that many AZ citizens support 1070b. Then again, they've been heard saying, now we understand why hitler killed all them jews. Plus republicans have considered mining the border to kill men, women and children. They are considering setting up tent camps for illegals in AZ. Russell Pearce, Republicans and Hitler have the same message, we must rise up and protect our nation. They know that every loyal American will rise up to what he calls an illegal invasion. They name their hate bills with words of patriotism. Because if you don't support the patriotic name of the bill you are a not a true American. Americans have to be smart and see it for what it is and not what it says it is. It is attorney verbiage distortion so that if you support it you a patriot and if you don't you're anti-American.

Thank you for your story on the Krentz Family. An Atlanta TV station recently has a news special on the Arizona border. They obtained records of illegal crossers on our border from the Border Patrol. Individuals arrested included people from Pakistan, Samolia, China and numerous other countries. Our southern border with Mexico is wide open. Arizona citizens along the border deserve to live in a safe environment. The border must be controlled as a first priority before an immigration reform can begin.

I think this is a nice article, thank you for reporting the reality of what the Krentz family is facing. Our thoughts and prayers have been with them and will continue to be. The "situation" or war zone on our border has been neglected for far too long. Our number one priority should be securing it, then focus on the immigration problem but American citizens deserve to be safe in their homes and on there property.

Thank you for an excellently detailed and factual article on the Krentz murder. We in the cattle industry are devastated for the Krentz family, yet are hoping this tragedy finally brings about the needed reform. Keep in mind that this reform MUST start with border security; the corresponding issues of illegal immigration, guest worker programs, rights of migrant workers, etc, while all certainly important is NOT what we are asking in Arizona. The first and most important step is to SECURE OUR BORDER! How can we possibly address any other related issue until we can determine who is entering our country?

What no one realizes is the harsh measures the Mexican government takes with illegal aliens in it's country. The southern border of Mexico is heavily patroled by the Mexican Police and the Mexican Army. If you are an illegal in Mexico you get off light with a beating, having all your money taken then thrown back across the border. THe U.S. tries to enforce the LAW and we get called racist etc....WHAT PART OF ILLEGAL DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND??? DO IT THE LEGAL WAY. OTHERWISE YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW. Be glad people, because we are so racist, theyy get 3 hots and a cot then an air conditioned bus ride or a plane ride or both back to whereever they came from. (after their medical problems get treated at our expense also)

You have written one of the most beautiful tributes to the family that I have ever read.
This certainly helps me see that there are so many facets to this very human story, from the difficult life for a ranch family, to the impact of drug cartels in the last 10 years on border residents to exploiting politicians using this humanitarian ranchers death for their own political careers.
The most moving and revealing statement by Mrs. Krentz was "All we wanted was to be able to live in safety on our own land," his widow says. "We don't want anyone on our property who isn't invited — drug smugglers, Minutemen, anyone. I guess that was too much to ask."

Many pro 1070b don't care about the repercussions as long as AZ is more white. They rely on misconceptions created by racists and politicians and using fear to get votes. Want votes from racists, give them racist agendas/laws (russell pearce, jan brewer and joe arpaio know this). FYI, most of the canadians buying homes, cars, cable, electricity, gas, water dont have' social security numbers, alike illegals. That's how ignorant some AZ voters are. Most illegals pay for/own homes, cars, cable/satellite, electricity, gas, water, buy groceries, buy gasoline, go to the hospital, auto insurance, eat out, go to the movies, go to shows, pay property taxes, pay sales tax, pay state taxes, pay deferal taxes, etc. They use what is called an ITIN to file taxes and have used them to build credit, some have excellent credit. I used to run credit checks for all kind of peope in AZ from the poor to the most affluent and I know that some illegals have excellent credit. AZ voters shoud be mad at being deceived by politicans but it is OK as long as AZ is more white.
Regardless of the consequences, AZ will have less hispanics and that is the main purpose of this law. On the positive side, this law should attract more white supremacists to the state. You know the white supremacists who refuse to pay taxes, trash homes, go on shooting rampages, kill cops, love methamphetamines and get our children to join their gangs, teach them to kill, teach to steal, teach them to hate, teach them to revolt against america, teach them to use and sell drugs, impregnate our daughters and then ignore them, teach our children how to survive in prison because that is where most end up and ultimate teach them to live life to the fuillest because they will die before 20 or 30 years of age. Torent's family my condolences go out to you for your loss. I prey something is done about our borders. It is not only Mecicans crossing into the US illigally and the ones that do get fake ID's once they are here. It is big business! false social security cards and ID are a big problem in Arizona. My frind owns his own business and got a letter from the SS Administration saying all three of the people he had working for him were diceased. Another place I used to work hired illigals with an AZ drivers License. An employee of the DMV would get paid like 2000 dollars to let illigals get a legal drivers license. There has to be a way to prove you are who you say you are, other wise this is going to continue to be a problem. Those were just two examples. I could go on and on about the fake ID's illigals get. Crime it is all about crime! Most are walking around and working with Fake ID's of some kind. They do vote, they do use up resources meant for US citizens, they are strapping hosital and medical resources. They are commiting crimes over and over again and getting away with it. Something needs to be done!

The US hires MILLIONS of Mexican immigrants, and yet its immigration process is an insurmountable obstacle to legal entry for most. The result of this hypocritical disconnect is death in the desert for many, the criminalization of millions of hard-working people who labor harvesting our food, building our homes, slaughtering and butchering livestock for our tables so they can put food on their childrens plates.
Large meat-packing plants ADVERTISE in Mexico offering US jobs. One plant had buses running back and forth over the border. Those who hire undocumented immigrants suffer no repercussions. All of the force of the state is against Mexican workers.
Tired of it?
You will never "seal the borders." US employers want their Mexican labor! so wake the fsck up and create immigration laws consistent with US employment practices.

Let’s take a look at the role mormons played in the 1993 WTC bombing, the OK City bombing and 9/11. It amazes me how reports like Rubin can tell you a story and yet still be one sided. I thought it was the job of a reporter to report. This article is huge disrespect to a wonderful man. Placing the ad Amongst U.S. at the top is bad taste. My take on the illegal immigration has only deepened with more content primarily because of individuals like Rubin. I use to want to just go after drug smugglers and human traffickers, but now, again because of people like Rubin and KPHO CBS news, I fully support SB1070 and I'm 3 generation Mexican and 100% American.

Backing up just a bit, I find it odd that so many people have concluded that this unfortunate murder was perpetrated by an "illegal(s)."
Nobody has been apprehended. The only eye witness is dead. What do we really know about the murder? We know that some empty cartridges were found near the murder scene. I suppose we could infer that the murder weapon was probably a semi-automatic pistol or rifle, since a revolver wouldn't eject empty cartridges. So if the weapon ever turns up, it can probably be matched to the cartridges. If the shooter was too casual, there might be prints on the cartridge cases.
I'm guessing that's about all that can reasonably be inferred from what the police have disclosed about the investigation. So far only a second-hand account of a garbled radio transmission and the geographic location suggest that an "illegal" might have been the perpetrator. This, of course, didn't and doesn't prevent political capitalization on the part of right wingers.

It really sucks that Krentz was killed. I wish it never happened. But I hate how people go crazy with speculation without any facts to back them up.

I think the problem on our sothern border is much like the oil spill in the Golf. If you don't stop the leak you will never be able to clean up the mess. The border could be secured in a very short time if we get tough enough on enforcement. I do not believe the bleaning hart liberals well ever let this happen. Our best chance would to let BP take over.

Someone needs to start telling people that the immigrants coming from Mexico are not ALL Mexican, Mexico has the issues that AZ is havin, people from south and central american funneling into the Mexico/US border, someone needs to start telling all the idiots out there who only complain about "mexico" and "maxicans" that there is a whole range of people coming illegally through mexico as well, that's crime is so high in the border, I think both countries can work together to stop illegal immigration, and for god's sake pass sb1070 so all those illegals who are abusing the system can go home. Yeah it sucks but all those illegals make it difficult for the rest of us who migrated with the intention of having a better life and following the rules, I'd also like to see all the european illegals and asian illegals sent back home too, Im tired of trying to talk to guys who can't speak english and try to talk to me in russian or greek or something, staying after their visa expires automatically makes them illegal too so I'd like to see a commercial of john mccain going after them in the airport and work sites as well...funny how you never europeans and asians in the anti-illegals commercials. I hope sb1070 weeds out alll of these immigrants so we can all have a more secure home.

And by legally you mean, he paid a private company to transport him across the US's international boundary, then waited in line till a overworked government agent looked at him and listened to make sure he did not sound like he had a cough/ or spots or some such.
Then he got a place to live, took a job that no one else wanted to do and then when the government introduce the social security card system(national tax id number) he got one and the children he supplied the seed for were born onto US soil and were in the current vernacular "Anchor babies".
Did I get the story of your family right?
By the way, HOW does your family story of paying a coyote to help them cross the US border give this grieving family any comfort?
The Krentz family, has my most sincere offer of comfort in this hard/ tragic time.
Please take comfort in a little Buddhist thought, Even though Robs earthly body is no more, what make him; him will be reborn into the lives of the ones he loved and that loved him. Same goes for Blue the dog too.

Alot of people are not fully understanding the outrage the people of Arizona are having. They feel we have something against the Mexican people. These are simple minded and arrogant people. Of course there are ones who will use this to hide their racism. But one thing that people need to understand... it's not the Mexican PEOPLE the problem stands with. It's people who purposely come here to simply take advantage of our system and to commit crimes. I have no problem with people coming here to better their lives. I would too if faced with the problems they have. But do it with kindness in your heart. Do not hurt or steal from people. I have quite a few Hispanic friends to support our law. In fact, I think the Mexican government is forgetting that they have the same law that they are screaming at Arizona for having. Go figure. So, all of these boycotts that people are placing upon Arizona? Go for it. We'll prevail here. While the ignorant states are boycotting us, we will be building Arizona to be a better state for Americans to live. And by Americans, I mean people from every nationality and race who lives here and agrees to obey the laws of our land. Before people place judgement on us, I say come live down by the border for a few months. See what it's like to live in fear that your children and elderly are not safe. See what it's like to have your house be constantly broken in to. See what it's like to have the need for someone to come watch your house if your gone for just a few hours. Come and feel the violation that the border towns are feeling. And read the article closely. This man was known for helping migrants. I'm sure he's not the only one.

I am sorry for the loss of Robert Krentz but where is all the uproar for the U.S. Border Patrol Agents murdered every year. Where is the uproar for Agent Rosas murdered last year about this time in San Diego. Now his wife has to raise two very young children all alone. No mention of Agent Luis Aguilar who left a wife and children behind after he was run over by a drug smuggler in Yuma in January of 2008. No one writes stories in TIME or any other magazine or newspapers for Alex Kirpnick a Border Patrol Agent who was murdered in 1998 by drug smugglers in Nogales, AZ. Even an article about the hundreds of agents injured every year by the "harmless" rocks thrown my aliens. Some left unable to support their families or even mentally disabled by the "Pebbles" hurled by migrants. It all shows where the focus lies, on money and skin color.

I think we can all take a lesson from the family and not hold every Mexican responsible just the twisted bastard that did this dirty deed.
As much as we don't want to think that any part of this is the fault of the American people, we are at least 50% responsible for it.
The sole reason that so many people are crossing the border in an illegal manner is the fact that there is work for them to do. Until the BIG business that is the economic engine that draws these people in are made to stop employing them the incentive that draws folks to cross the border will still be in place. Unfortunately no matter what laws we enact or what fences we build or how heavily we patrol desperate people will be drawn to the incentives that they see.
We can all agree that the immigration process is a slow, tangled and flawed mess that needs to be changed, We need to make that a high priority of the federal law makers.
In the mean time Local and state lawmakers can focus on Killing the incentives that are the draw of the immigrants both illegal and legal. If the states or local governments simply levy a fine, on the company found to be employing a illegal worker, equal to 5% of the company's quarterly profit for every illegal worker that is found. Have that fine be split evenly between the state general fund and the general fund of the city where the offense took place. In no time you would find the companies complying with every employment verification law and more then likely going beyond what is required so they do not encounter a possibly bankrupting fine.
Will the politicians ever do any thing like this and tackle the root cause of the immigration imbalance? Probably not. Why? To many politicians get too much money both legally and illegally from these large businesses who make too much profit from the current status.
Every state in the Union has problems with illegal immigrants but not to the same extent as the Southern border states. Please do what you need to do to feel safe (sb1070) but DO something to address the actual incentives that are a huge cause of the initial problem.
Again, my deepest condolences go to the Krentz family.

My heart goes out to the Krentz family. Unfortunately, the media usually portrays lawabiding citizens as cruel and unfeeling, while they portray Mexican illegals as poor, unfortunate victims. Nothing is being done to save California. We have to deal with trashed neighborhoods, graffiti, crime, drugs, and blight. It breaks my heart to see what is happening to California. In believe it has been lost to the illegals. In 10 years, it will look like Tijuana. The taxpayers who are footing the bill and losing everything will be gone.

No one is asking why the sudden influx of illegal activity over the last 10 or so years. Instead of bad legislation that won't stop the problem, why not ask our representatives to find the root cause of the illegal activity. Many already know the answer, but they won't address it. The issue isn't race or country of origin. The issue is class. The wealthy want their cheap labor. On both sides of the border.

My Great-Grandfather came through Ellis Island and did it all legally. Thanks to him, I was born into this country, as were my parents and Grandparents, as a citizen. But he did it legally.
My heart breaks for the Krentz family and what they are going through. ESPECIALLY after the multiple warnings from ranchers, sheriff's offices, Border Patrol and citizens. If the government will not listen to the citizens who vote them into office, it is high time to vote in people who WILL listen.
Mr. Krentz and his wife and family will be in my thoughts every time I vote in the next election and the one after that and the one after that and the one after that. Ad Infinitum.
If NO ONE is respecting our borders, our laws or our lands, then NO ONE deserves to be here. When the sign says Keep Out, as a law abiding PERSON, I do. It's about time others, be they ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS or CITIZENS read the signs and OBEY THEM.

if you dont vote the dems out, give it up, just more illegals who are giving legals a slap in the face and a bad name. they are moving into latino areas and bringing the crime with them, if you love your kids and families, get the illegals out. every legal should be up in arms against the illegals, they are hurting every legal american here. you left mexico for a better life, but you let the illegals bring the same thing to where you are now. why? its a slap in the face to every legal here and only hurts you, not helps you. speak out against illegals, they are moving into your area, do you know who your neighbors are? who they really are? what did they do in mexico? was it illegal? rape?rob? child molest? if they break the law by comming here illegaly, chances are they broke the law in mexico, stop the illegals now, they are only hurting the legals, legals need to stand up to the illegals and tell them "we did it the right way, so you must do it the right way" the illegals are not special and should not get a free pass here after you did all the work to come here legally. stop illegal immigration now, they are not undocumented workers, they are ILLEGALS.
