One January night in 2003 when her boss called, asking her to come in for a night shift of janitorial work at the Brooklyn Con Ed building, Julia protested, complaining of a fever. But with an eight-year-old son and four-month-old daughter at home, she knew she couldn't give up the work. The family needed every dollar.

She slipped on layers of sweaters, a jacket, and a pair of shoes that did no justice to the snowstorm going on as she walked to the subway station. When she finished her shift, she felt chills and was sweating. Her knee—a constant problem since she'd come to the United States from Guatemala five years earlier—was throbbing. Her whole body ached.

Over the next two weeks, her brother made trips to the pharmacy to pick up Tylenol. Neighbors came by her drafty two-bedroom apartment to bring her soup. When Julia couldn't get out of bed, the kids were looked after by a sister and sister-in-law.

Under no circumstances, however, could she see a doctor. Doctors ask questions. They request documents. They might even call the police. One phone call could mean incarceration, deportation, and separation from her kids. Julia knew she was sick, but a doctor was out of the question.

In 1998, she had trekked across Mexico to get to the U.S. for more money, better education, and less violence. Her home, the southern end of Guatemala, was racked by mayhem left over from a civil war.

"There was a better future here," Julia says in Spanish. Her eldest sister, Carmen, draws a finger across her throat: "[The violence] was everywhere," she says.

And Julia's firstborn was sick. At a month old, Wilmar developed meningitis, which, if treated there, was costly. Coming to America meant better health care.

But now that she needed medical care herself, she was terrified about getting it.

When the cold turned into something worse—constant vomiting and shortness of breath—Julia's brother insisted she see a doctor. Her husband was certain a hospital would not deport Julia because she was so ill. "They had to help her," her husband, Lisandro Escobar, says.

Julia admitted herself to Woodhull Medical Center a few weeks later. "I walked to the hospital alone," she says. "There was no one who could come with me—everyone was busy working." At Woodhull, few staffers knew Spanish. Julia's English was limited to "I don't know."

To the staff who did speak her language, Julia divulged her illegal status. "I was not afraid to tell them I didn't have papers," she says. "A lot of people in the hospital were illegal. I knew they weren't going to deport me because I was sick."

Julia was at Woodhull for a month, suffering from severe chest pains and shortness of breath. She was eventually transferred to Bellevue Hospital to see a cardiologist, but it was a bewildering experience. "Everyone was speaking in English," she says with a shrug.

She was at Bellevue for two months before she met Danielle Ofri, a physician and professor at NYU's medical center. One day, Ofri brought around a new team of residents to Julia's room.

Ofri says she looked at Julia's chart and felt overwhelmed.

"I felt . . . entirely defeated," Ofri says today, remembering that day when she first met the Guatemalan woman, who, at 36, was near her own age. "The whole premise of medicine is that you can always work harder to help your patients, but here was a situation that I could not do anything about."

When Ofri looked at the chart, she could see that Julia's battered and enlarged heart was not pumping enough blood. Her diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy was a death sentence, but only because of her legal status.

"I know if she gets the transplant, there is a 95 percent chance of a full recovery," Ofri says. But an intern quietly informed the doctor that Julia was in the country illegally. Undocumented immigrants, Ofri knew, don't get on a transplant list.

When Ofri mispronounced her name, Julia corrected her.

"Hooolia," she said.

"We meet this lovely person. . . . It was just horrible to see this person and know she is going to die and none of us could do anything about it," Ofri says. "None of us could bring ourselves to say, 'You need a transplant. You can't get it. And you are going to die without it.' And we tried several times, but we just kept chickening out, because how do you say that to someone's face?"

Despite being in two hospitals over three months, Julia had never really grasped the truth of her situation from the other doctors and nurses, some of whom knew only a little Spanish.

However, Ofri was nearly fluent. Her father had immigrated from Israel (he had played on the 1952 Israeli Olympic basketball team); she had studied Spanish in Peru, Guatemala, and Mexico. She carefully explained to Julia that she could provide her with medicines that would make her feel better, but not cure her.

@pamfila: IMHO, Kennedy was one of the best presidents we'd ever had.

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 5:48:00 PM

Yes, today, I have to listen to bomb, bomb, bomb....etc...because the old man who works the fields (He is from Mexico) He is playing his music LOUD...does not care about other peoples' rights. I guess he got away with it in Mexico, but wants to do the same over here. He claims that he does not have to obey the law....that he can play his music as loud as he wants....Please take it from there

WILL acknowledge, our U.S. Presidents, our Congress, our House of Representative, also our Senators of the USA. country!!! No, No, No when I stated YOU are against our country, I meant you love our country!!! Our late President of the USA stated to the effect, "Ask not what your country can do for you; ASK what you can do for your country." (It goes something like that." But I clearly remember, when the newscaster announced in that black and white TV, that our U.S. President Kennedy had gone with the Lord!!! I still cry, cry cry...IThat is not what I intended....I intended that our USA President...they love our UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. When I was a little girl, we saluted our flag of the USA, every morning!!!! Then we had to prayed for our nation (that is discipline). We were taught the U.S. Constituion, and we had to memorize the amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Then, when I was in the fourth grade, we had a serious bulletin; everything stopped. Our United States President had been assassinated. I was just a little girl; all schools were closed and it snowed for the first time in Salinas, CA...I remember that I cried and cried, and cried; then, my mommie was crying and crying...we as children did not understand a lot of things. Then JohnJohn saluted his daddy; the entire nation cried and saw this. You know, to take away a human life, seriously this is not a game; this is very embarrassing for us, the USA, because God is nothing to play with!!!! Our USA president was shot.....we cried and cried, and cried....because us 4th graders at the time voted for President Kennedy who ran against President Nixon. In our class, President Kennedy had the votes, why???? Because he was handsome; we wanted a handsome USA president of the USA. Thank you very much for those who love and are very thankful to our USA. (c'mon, we were babies and President Kennedy was our heroe.)

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 5:51:00 AM

Yes, I am kinda tired typing all those statement that defend the USA..I think they are scared to death. Why? Why?, because enough is enough. I am not only a happy person, but I am a very thankful person to my 102 year old daddy, my precious brother, Juan S. Amaya, because these men have integrity, character, responsible individuals who provided for their children - never using drugs, never abusing any alcohol beverage...the list goes on and on because I am tired of typing, my fingers are tired...because I know that when I write my book, listen very carefully, (direct order); I WILL acknowledge, our U.S. Presidents, our Congress, our House of Representative, also our Senators of the USA. Thank you, because I already see it, YOU are against our country!!! Plain and Simpleeeee!!!! Thank God that I also met people of the USA, people who inspired our GREAT nation, not a nation of Mexico!!!!! We have our own leaders who know how to keep this coungry intact - that nobody, you hear me NOBODY is going against my country, the USA!!!!! I dare you to face me, because I will alert ever Navy, American Air Force, U.S. Army...the list goes on and on...I DARE you to go against OUR COUNTRY, the USA!!!!Praise the Almighty God for OUR country...and if you do not like it, please, kindly, step aside for that airplane who is taking you back to your country....Thank you very much....Oh, and please do not come back into our country and going to the welfare office.....With PRIDE for MY COUNTRY, the UNITED STATES of AMERICA!!!! Long live AMERICA!!!! JUST like you say VIVA MEXICO, well sorry Charlie, LONG LIVE AMERICA....................whether you like it or not!!!!

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 5:31:00 AM

Oh, yes, when you are telling a whole entire class, who is studing American history, and you say that those poor people from Mexico are laboring in the 380 degrees??? C'mon, just like they found a way to come here illegally, they should work in that HOT sun; it is probable much easier than crossing that border, hiding, crying, stacked in those coyotes trucks like sardines to make it to America...then they had to pay the coyote!!! C'mon, give a decent explanation to our Judges in the courts....They broke the law to begin with, and will be your next criminal, why???? Why???? because to them, what they see of yours, they will take it so that they won't pay for it!!!!Catch the drift???? I am so happy that a tough student faced those students, defending Mexico, that the poor illegals are mistreated, that they pick our fruits and veggies in the HOT sun!!! How dare you!!!! They are robbing Americans who need jobs, the key???? They will not work for beans when they are not guaranteed disability, ssi when they get real old, no medical/dental insurance?????We wonder who is keeping all that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 5:18:00 AM

Please stop posting your hurting complaints and attempting to win the bleeding hearts!!! You know that YOU broke the law, and are among Americans who break the law when they fail fo stop at a red light...c'mon grow up, face it YOU broke USA laws to begin with...we have our own gigantic problems!!!! I hope you are happy!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyoLpJ6J_4Y This our idol of America, Elvis Presley, singing to the USA. Yes, we are at this moment facing opposition towards our country, but this country will neva, neva, neva, go down. Thank you very much. Just listen to our idol, Elvis...He sings it like it is....

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 5:03:00 AM

Our law enforcement are #1!!! Many have fought abroad to defend the USA!!! Tears, tears, tears...have you seen when a big jet is ready to take our soldiers, i.e. from Forthood, Texas, when our troops are going to the unknown???? C'mon, this is very serious business, because they are going to the unknown to fight for our country, the USA...Parents are left behind crying for their loved ones; yes, it is very scary to the extent that we are afraid to answer our front doors!!!! We know that this is serious business for our country, and that we might see our child again........Yet, illegal aliens have more rights than Americans....

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 4:54:00 AM

Yes, another thing, where I live , just to provide for my two little doggies, five little cockatiels, the neighbor in front, from Mexico, is raising chickens. Just think please, take a moment and think....every certain day (because I do not want to make a mistake) a van, which indicates emergency services parks in front of where I have to leave, brings out a little lady who claims to our government that she has dialysis, takes her somewhere....but the rest of the time, while her husband is working for some top farmer in Le Grand, CA, bringing approximately $300++++ Are they reporting this to the government???? She is from Oxahuaca, Mexico....they are raising chickens and roosters back here where I live....Are they into some type of cock fighting; today I could see them showing the chicken coup to someone .....you take it from there...

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 4:46:00 AM

Yeah, try calling the immigration office, fraud division, Fresno, CA, what we have experienced, a Hispanic because his voice sounds like it...when we have called through an American Hispanic, it is always a he...sorry, he sounds angry because he thinks we are against his people....sorry, that is how we feel because we are human beings who have feelings. we hurt...we hurt because we cannot turn to someone who is going to hear our story...we, Americans, have worked hard, studied in order to earn some kind of degree, we also obey American laws...etc....but everytime, we wee an illegal alien who came in through the cracks is always first to see the doctor....through Medical....tears

Please hear Ray Charles as he sings America the Beautiful...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghz4_kikLkE We who have been born and taught the values of this powerful country are not only willing to die for it; we are willing to support those in power to stand strong for this very powerful nation..God bless you...

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 2:09:00 AM

Yes, they pay sales tax, blah, blah, like we all have to, BUT, no YOU wait because I have the floor, let me tell you something since you opened up the door! Illegals are known to borrow SSI#s, (yes, social security numbers, are you one of them?) from Americans and illegals who somehow got in through the cracks and all of a sudden became American citizens, guess what???? They will lend their ssi #s while the illegal works during the seasonal job earning beans, BUT guess what???? When income tax time comes, those illegals cannot file for refunds because now, NOW, it is the ssi # lender's time to collect that supposedly big chunk of income tax refund?????? Catch my drift???? So I would be very careful in what you are stating because our government can, yes I said CAN investigate every tooth and nail you have in your body! Please, please do NOT mess with our beautiful country, the United States of America.... We are nothing to play with!!!!! If you do not appreciate this wonderful and beautiful country, the USA, get out....thank you very much.

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 1:35:00 AM

Yes, we do have many, many, many, especially here in Le Grand CA....their husbands work those fields and will state under the hot sun....They bring home approximimately $300+ weekly while their wife, or lover,(yes, sometimes, American citizen) collects welfare assistance $$$$ and food stamps, state to the social workers that they do not know who the father is, do not know the whereabouts, the lies go on and on.... Yet, Americans, true Americans go without....The illegals know how to manipulate the system, provide illegal ssi #s and stolen birth certificates, etc.... We are still hoping and wishing for that day when our pictures and thumb prints are required on those ssi cards....

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 1:26:00 AM

I have faith in our beautiful America, our forefathers, our President, Congress, and Justice systems because we do have to protect our country, United States of America. Just as you protect your home against mice, roaches, et.... (No, I am not comparing people with these little creatures; yes, they are here illegally and in violation of American statutes)...I am saying that just as we all protect our homes from those illegal little creatures....the Unitied States of America is our only home. Likewise, we have to protect it against illegal invaders, harmful creatures....You take it from there. Our United States of America is a home to us...just like a house. We want it to be clean, without roaches and illegal activity...so that we can live in peace and be happy. I feel that others from other countries bring their customs here, i.e. practices that do not meet up to clean environments as dicatated by the health and safety codes....I guess what I am trying to say is that America does care about other countries, it just does not accept breaking the laws....those laws that the people voted for....

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 1:04:00 AM

Yes, I hope that the law becomes stronger, why??? Because I had neighbors who smuggled her kids (high school and junior high school age), also her husband (who is still here in Le Grand, CA) through a coyote!!!!! One day, upon arriving she came to me to go to the highschool because some gangsters had knocked her highschooler's glasses and beat him. She wanted me to accompany her to inform the highschool. Testing her kid, I said, "Let's go!" Then her kid got scared and refused. Why??? Next day, she wanted a ride to the clinic; yes, she got new glasses for him. (Him, illegal) She had those little plastic cards (maybe with a phony ssi #???) Tip: When you call immigration, you will be speaking to a Hispanic who does not really care. Why??? Because they are only there for their paycheck, do not want to be involved, and supposedly are needed because they are bilingual...Thank you very much.

  • pamfilaPobox348 07/18/2010 12:46:00 AM

No!!! You are the one to learn...please go to college, struggling to make ends meet and survive....c'mon!!! Illegals, they live all around me (I know I will be leaving them soon - on my own terms) Illegals do NOT have respect for our law enforcement, students who have to prepare and face exams for various classes, why???why???? because the illegals want everybody to listen to their music from Mexico, LOUD, LOUD, LOUD and BLASTING!!!! When nicely, I said NICELY, tell them that you have to study, they will turn on you and tell you that it is ok until night time....EXCUSE ME???? I respond that we can take a trip to the Law Library where the codes, ordinances, etc...all stipulate that you CANNOT interrupt your neighbors' peace...this includes DAY or NIGHT!!!!! I can explain that very simple: You can play any music of your taste so that YOU can ONLY hear it. Otherwise, you are disturbing the peace of others. I am sorry, but I happen to dislike music from Mexico; my taste is Disco music from the 70/80s - which makes me feel like dancing, catch my drift???? When I play my music I play it so that I can hear it, not my neighbors, etc.... I do happen to respect other people's privacy because statutory law clearly states!!!!! Or do we have to call our law enforcement to come and hear it for themselves and tell those people to lower their volume and respect others?????

  • pamfilaPobox348 07/18/2010 12:23:00 AM

    1. Also, NOT all Hispanics are Mexican, illegal immigrants or bad people. Many racists are just exploiting this issue and trying to instill a sense of fear in others thereby creating a hostile environment that could linger forever. - To this, you do get an "F" in my book, why???? "The only truth you say, NOT all Hispanics are Mexican" That is the only truth you have to offer??? Americans (Hispanics) have been hated, robbed, mistreated, etc.... by illegals from Mexico!!!!! They are jealous of American born since, I believe, the 1950s children; they hate us because we grew up in our America, studied, struggled through college.....just not too long ago, I counted 3 illegals (I was watching their hands) stealing my bananas, mp3s, pens for school, flashlights, etcc...catch my drift????? I paid for all this with my OWN $$$$$, which has to be substracted from my budget!!!!!!!! I have to live also!!!!!!! They work, illegally, but they work those fields, and jealousy drives them to steal, or are we getting the rejects??? from you know where?????lalala land????? Minor????? NO!!!! You do NOT steal...The Dollar Store: you can but each one of these things for $1, $1, $1,$1....C'mon!!!!!! Thou shalt NOT steal!!!! Yes, I am angry because these illegals never asked me for the stolen item; they found it real easy to just put it in their little jacket pocket!!!!! Have you done the same thing????????????? Does this ring a bell?????????????????// This is why Americans are angry and say "Enough is enough!!!!!"

  • pamfila 07/18/2010 12:04:00 AM

Look!!! Read your story again...because you are not making any sense!!!! Our Country, the United States of America, yes, the United States of America!!! This country has been taken to be a fool...but guess what!!!! It will NEVA be taken as a fool...i.e.!!! our American soldiers are fighting hard for this country; I dare you to go out to those America-Haters and fight for this country with sleepless hours waiting for the enemy, WITH HUNGER throughout your entire body, possible eating some crawling rat just to survive!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ILLEGALS BROKE the LAW, AMERICAN LAW!!! There are avenues provided by our USA to assist in coming here L-E-G-A-L-L-Y, just in case you cannot spell the word "Legally." If the federal government conducted an intense investigation for every penny spent on an illegal woman, with children, begging for government $$$$ at all county welfare offices....now just a minute!!! I have the floor, while their husbands are bringing home weekly$$$$300.+++ aside from illegal activity....c'mon, be REAL!!!!Yes, I hope you have your statistics correct because us, us who defend this country and our U.S. Constitution, can prove that illegals are all around us begging while the illegal men bring home $300+++++ every week, why??? because when they get OLD, their bosses will not have to give them pensions, disability.....Our American men will NOT stand for those beans (frijoles)!!!

  • William 07/07/2010 10:36:00 PM

While I feel for her and her situation, the fact remains. She is using the AMERICAN welfare system to finance this. A system already severely in financial trouble to those who are here legally and even contributed to the system for many years (Medicare). The cost of the drugs and procedure itself is astounding. Are we to welcome every illegal immigrant into our country to pay for their care? The system has difficulty enough supporting those that are on it legally much less trying to keep up with the 11 million illegal immigrants we have in this country.

  • Mary 07/07/2010 10:25:00 PM

You have a lot to learn. I have given you some answers. How would we feel if we were in that same situation? many, many people have been in the same situation and have gone the legal way! Immigrants do contribute to the economy, they pay sales tax anytime they buys something and have taxes deducted form their paychecks for services they will never get to use since they are not citizens. they use these services all the time - they put a huge burden on schools, police and fire. they only pay employment taxes about half of the time. the other 1/2 work under the table. a large % of their money goes home to family members and is never spent in this Country. It would be best to offer them a pathway to citizenship, like Obama proposed, which would include a fine, learning English and taking citizenship classes. we alrady offer these things!!! at the most recent citizenship ceremony in AZ theri were only 10 new citizens! obviously they dont care! If people are so worried about costs and things of that nature then why not start taxing the wealthy, greedy white people that pay a miniscule percentage compared to the middle and lower classes that, as usual have to shoulder the burden. ok - i agree here, but this is just not the illegal immigrants - it's all lower calsses. I also hate to say this but people are against reform since the majority of immigrants are non-European and let’s face it, in general White people only feel comfortable with their own. They don't like the fact that their majority status is slowly shrinking since there is safety in numbers to the extent they can build networks of associates to help block people they feel are inferior to them from achieving better lives. They just won't admit to it since keeping up the appearance of the dutiful open-minded Caucasian means more o them than owning up to their motives! this is just plain stupid and obviously you are very racist! They also keep correlating crime with all Mexican immigrants and all Hispanics in general regardless of legal status or country of origin. we are not correlating crime with Mexicans it's the truth in AZ. I see and hear it every day. We are the kidnapping capital of the US only due to the fact that border corssers - from Mexico!are held for ransom and found in drop houses every day. What’s resulted is in all Hispanics being vilified and labeled public enemy number 1. Also, NOT all Hispanics are Mexican, illegal immigrants or bad people. Many racists are just exploiting this issue and trying to instill a sense of fear in others thereby creating a hostile environment that could linger forever. It would be a better idea to really stop and look at yourself and figure out just what it is that bothers you about immigrants, immigration and Hispanics in particular instead of lumping people together and making sweeping statements. I’d advise them to be careful since if in the future they find themselves in a life or death situation where they need help don’t expect an immigrant or a Mexican or a Hispanic to help you since they’ve been made to feel that they are less than human and will never be equal. Plus, you never know who may one day become your brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, best friend, neighbor, boss, co-worker, boyfriend, girlfriend, lover, etc. Think about it. again it sound like you are the racist pig!!!

  • Mary 07/07/2010 10:14:00 PM

Everyone knows of someone with a story like that - illegal immigrant or not. Let's not forget all of the horrible stories we hear everyday about what illegal aliens are doing. How about the 2 AZ border patrolmen that were recently ambushed and killed by illegal border crossers - what about their families and kids? Or the AZ farmer killed earlier this year, for 60 years he has been helping border crossers only to be killed viciously by them. Or a really sick one, the Michigan baby that was kidnapped while the parents were on vacation in Mexico only to have the body found still in the same clothing, but it had been cut open, stuffed with drugs and closed back up. Let's not forget AZ is the kidnapping capital of the US only because illegal border crossers are called kidnapping victims when they are found in drop houses owned by coyotes. I could go on and on. We must take back America. Unfortunately, it's too late for CA!

  • K C Sue 07/07/2010 10:05:00 PM

When are some people going to understand the meaning if "illeagl"? Yes, I feel bad for her and her situation, however, she has been in OUR hospitals how long? And who is paying for this prolonged stay and medical treatment??????? WE ARE! But since I was born and raised here, worked from the time I was 10 years old, paid my taxes every year, raised my family and made sure we all had medical insurance - even when I had to work 2 jobs to pay for it, saved for my old age, but if I lost my insurance, had a major medical problem, I would not qualify for assistance because I have saved, own a home, and worked all my life. Sure I might get treatment, but you can bet your a** I would be expected to pay for everything or use any savings I might have even though I am too old to ever be able to rebuild for my retirement years. So tell me......who is going to pay for all her medical treatment????? As for her daughter being a citizen...in my book, just because your illegal parent decides to get pregnant and have a baby in the US does not make that child a CITIZEN.

There is such a thing as compassion you know. How would we feel if we were in that same situation? People talk about how hard it would be to deport 12 million people. Not one person can back that up! It would not be that hard, as once we started moving them out of the country to where they came from, most of the others would bug out before they were caught. And just which unknown super power are you talking about. Come on state some facts unstead of the crap you are posting.

  • Gayle 07/07/2010 1:56:00 PM

I agree with Akilgore70888. Get in line and do the right thing. And besides, who is going to pay for this costly medical procedure? We cannot afford it, PERIOD.

  • tiredofallthecrap 07/07/2010 10:46:00 AM

Legal immigrants must go through extensive health checks. I know because my wife is a LEGAL immigrant, and I am her sponsor. I had to prove that I could financially support her, so she wouldn't be a drain on the social services system when she got here. She had to have a complete physical given by a U.S. immigration doctor including TB x-ray of her chest, test for HIV, check of heart, etc. She also had to get a "certificate of good conduct" (no fooling - that's what they actually call it in her home country) from the local police to certify that she was not wanted for anything and was not just leaving her home country to evade authorities. Yes, folks - that's how and why LEGAL IMMIGRATION works. You circumvent that, and you have all sorts of heartache and problems. Yes, this woman's story is sad, but how many people already here legally or have always lived here will not be able to get a heart transplant because they cannot afford it. This is not an issue of racism or hatred, it's doing what's right, both on an individual level and for our society as a whole.

Legal immigrants must go through extensive health checks. I know because my wife is a LEGAL immigrant, and I am her sponsor. I had to prove that I could financially support her, so she wouldn't be a drain on the social services system when she got here. I still believe wholeheartedly that if America follows the same immigration system that was implemented here in Canada right in the beginning of the '90's it'll succeed. There are more than 12.000.000.00 illegal immigrants living in the United States according to the statistics. That's just a little over New York City's population. Now, I ask you:how can you deport more than twelve million people without costing the government any money?.How can you deport the entire population of New York City?.That'd be a terrible financial stress for any country.I'd suggest let the illegal immigrants who have no criminal records and can speak English fluently stay whilst the ones who are murderers, robbers, gangsters etc.get kicked out of the country for good.Re-enforce the border with Mexico and let those in America illegally stay on humanitarian grounds just like we did here in Canada years ago. Nonetheless, whichever way America decides to go about with this immigration case, rest assured that such thing will never bring America down.Mexico will never take over America. To believe in that is just like believing in a myth. There's actually a great superpower rising up on the horizon now(which nobody suspects a thing)that'll bring America down in the years ahead.Unfortunately, the United States will fall down and when it does, not even illegal immigrants will want to go there anymore. Events happening right now are already paving the way for America to fall down and when that happens, illegal immigration will be the last thing for the United States to worry about.

i feel bad for the lady and her family. i really do, but the law is the law. i wouldn't expect me to treated any different if i were to go to another country illegally. many of them don't just give you a taxi ride home like the u.s. they put you in a hole for years and forget about you until it is convenient for them to deal with you. she needs to apply for citizenship and learn English. seems like she fits all the other requirements to become a u.s. citizen. having an american husband and daughter will only help her too. my belief is if you wanna be here. do it the right way. get a visa or become a citizen. it is the law. how fair would it be for all these people to get everything for doing nothing. they have it a lot easier. remember Ellis island people. that is where my ancestors had to sit for 6 months minimum.

  • changa 07/07/2010 3:12:00 AM

Stop blaming hardworking immigrants for the problems Bush and his Wall street buddies created. Blame the industries that took their businesses to other countries for slave labor. Wake up and stop being part of a mindless herd blaming poor immigrants who for the most part make a positive contribution.

What part of illegal are you not understanding? If someone is here illegaly, they aren't paying taxes. Last I knew you needed verification at H n R Block! They get paid under the table with no taxes being taken. When an illegal goes to the hospital with no insurance, who the hell do you think pays the hospital bill? Not the illegal, no it's left to legal tax payers to pay that bill! So don't down the people who are proud of what they have worked for and paid taxes for. Why don't you have your identity and social security number stolen and used for an illegal (because he/she is to lazy to do what is needed to do it legal) then maybe there will be some merit to what you say. Until then shut the hell up!!!

  • Icanhelp 07/06/2010 5:22:00 PM

The past is the past! Ilegal is illegal! Show me a place on the planet where people have not come into an area and taken it from the animals or people that lived there before them. Making excuses for people that are commiting crimes by invading another country because they are unwilling to fix the country they live in is not a reason to be here or any other country for that matter. I read uneducated people's comments all the time preaching destruction of the country we live in, the country so many people want to escape to, and wonder where do they want to live? Do they want to go to one of the other countries in the world and change the conditions there to better ones, make the other country a place people will want to go to? No they just want to tell people who have worked hard to make this a wonderful place to live how horrible we all are and then just sit on their ass and do nothing. If the people that think enforcing our laws is so unjust, go to another country that is more just in how they enforce their laws and make it even better than it is now! Go to Guatamala and make it peaceful, more wealthy, do not rip down our coutry to further the lies of people too lazy to fix the places people want to flee from. Go stand in front of the United Nations and tell them to make all of the countries where people are fleeing from better. See how far that gets you! Enforce the immigration laws we have now, they are very good if enforced. Seal our borders and have people come into the country the proper way, in an orderly manner. Quit encouraging criminal behavior of the illegals, the employers of illegals, and both our government and the government of the country people feel they need to flee from.

Juan, I live in California, and know lots of illegals. Most work under the table and do not pay taxes. And they send a good portion of their wages to Mexico. And, they use up tons of resources, free healthcare, free education, welfare, etc. They are a drain to our economy, not a boon to it. Even if they DID pay taxes, the little that they pay in versus the amount they draw out in social services is still a net loss. The only one who wins is the illegal immigrants, and the greedy employers. But that is going to change. Americans are sick and tired of paying for illegals free social services.

By the way, the reason your, hard Mexican workers, take the job right out from under us 'lazy Americans, one of whom you profess to be, so you are lazy', is because they under cut our workers. They can live cheaper in peoples garage with 6 other illegal families and in Mexicos deflated economy. Thats another way they rob Americans.

  • Ub70 07/06/2010 10:34:00 AM

Both sides of the coin? Meaning your side? We've looked there, now its time for you to see our side "of the coins...many more than one".

  • zna291 07/06/2010 10:26:00 AM

Hay, we know the point......we've been living it for over 60 years now, and when it gets so bad we can't stand it any more, we're going to do something besides taking illegals crap and yours. Call yourself retarded, because your rant reflects your mind. You have to call people names to get a point across, how lame, I mean retarded. Saying illegals and Mexicans are better workers is one more overly worked excuse for being here. Since the Mexicans are illegal they better work their butts off or get reported. Makes'm look like hard workers. Those of you who think you're the only ones who see things clearly are a bit egotistical. Amazing how the majority of Americans don't see "the point" and are just miserable because we're tired of all the sneaky behavior of people who "hide in the shadows." Why don't your hard working Mexicans go to Mexico and do what they are doing up here? Because they would be shot. By the way, we get complaints about our two Mexican employees quite a bit, because they slack off and visit all day. Our "lazy" Americans are tired of carrying their weight, I guess. We keep'm on because they are a minority, live in Mexico and a little handout doesn't hurt.

  • lyn233 07/06/2010 9:06:00 AM

Which American has to go without a hart so she can get hers? The one who was born here, worked hard all his live and paid his taxes, or the one who is so poor he can't pay his bill, so gets shoved to the back of the line. Giving extreme aid to illegals is such a common event in this country, its pathetic this author thinks she has to write about it.

  • fedup 07/06/2010 8:55:00 AM

Sorry about the misspelled words and punctuation, I get so mad when I see bleeding hearts go against our system, I threw a tantrum......well, you can see what happens.

  • fedup 07/06/2010 8:45:00 AM

You might think you make things happen, but they obviously aren't very important or positive. Why don't you practice what you preach, that would impress everyone who reads your blogs more than your constant babble and obvious resentment. I have manners, where's yours, oops, I forgot, calling people names, posters getting mad at your nastiness and making people sick of you is called manners. You make me laugh, ha, ha, ha,. You wouldn't know manners it they slapped you in the face. If you followed in my footsteps you would be the luckiest person ever, I love my life, but you somehow, missed out and live in resentment.

  • fedup 07/06/2010 8:27:00 AM

You seem to be in a bubble, or all alone. Its from illegals/Mexicans own mouths on the news about taking over this country to make it Mexico and make history, but you somehow missed it? Maybe you should get off the computer and watch the news or listen to your playmates. The pathetic comeback Mexicans use for being here is the founding of this country, the very place you are enjoying and flocking to right now, then seem to resent. Sooo, Mexicos history of slaughtering and massacring, looking down their noses at darker skinned Mexicans, their own Indians, and all the carnage of Mexican/Spanish history is superior to Americas history? Humm, so thats why all you Mexicans who are not racist at all, idolize Mexicans with light skin, or those borne blonder, but the darker shade of skin one has is considered inferior, the darker the worse. I'm the racist and you aren't? HA, HA, HA, HA, I have to laugh at your remarks. How come the Mexican elite is trying to save their own lives by sending their poor up here in hopes to deter a revolution in their country. I have to laugh, ha, ha, ha, ha.

  • justme4 07/06/2010 7:09:00 AM

Everyone makes choices....for their own reasons. I would hope that if one of my children needed some kind of donor in order to live, someone would be willing to give of themselves to do that....and yes, it's the ultimate sacrifice. I am a legal, born and raised here, citizen, I have served in the military and all that, but really when it comes to saving a life, when possible, is it really THAT big of a deal who gets what? I'm not saying that laws shouldn't be there to protect people from the kind of immigrants that come across our borders for the purpose of crime, but I guess I see compassion as something that is just given with no expectations, no borders or with strings attached. And by that I mean from government as well. I could get into a whole discussion on how I think we are governed wayyyyyyy too much, almost to the point of taking some of the very freedoms we enjoy away from us, but that is not the point here. And no, I don't think every person who is poor and needy needs to come to the USA and start over. Many people choose not to come here for reasons that make perfect sense to them, and I'm happy about that too. Some countries could learn from other countries how to take care of themselves without ever having to leave their country to begin with, but some countries because of their governments, can't or won't do that. Some countries just think that the USA will bail them out and they don't have to do anything, and that was the wrong thing for us to have done over the years. Like I said, I didn't comment to change the world as I'm not the one that has all the answers for that, but I would hope that the value of human life wouldn't have a border or a race card attached to it. There is a difference between helping someone and being taken advantage of, and there are many people here, natural born US citizens, who take advantage of situations. David Crosby chose to drink and do drugs, and yet got put on the list for a liver transplant..and got one...and then started drinking again.....he's supposedly in the 'know' since all celebrities know everything, just ask them, so he of all people should know that drugs and smoking and drinking destroy the liver, yet heaven forbid he should die because of the overdosing of all of those because after all, he's an American citizen, cough cough icon cough cough, who needs help. Where does one draw a line? Fame and money mean help? Lack of status and no money means a death sentence? Who decides? What agency does that? Who are the life saving gods who decide who lives and who dies and at what expense and at what sacrifice? What other countries do this and we think of them as heartless people? Rhetorical questions....just for thought, I don't need a list of federal laws and mandates and all that for the answers, again LETTER of the law vs spirit of the law, in the appropriate places and times. There ARE many US citizens waiting for hearts, lungs, livers, eyes and many other organs and if there was a match for me, or my family, yet it was someone who was from a foreign country and not a citizen of the US, I would hope that their friends and family wouldn't say....oh, let them die, they're not one of us..pffft......sounds sort of high school, you know, they're not in the 'IN' crowd.

  • Ub70 07/06/2010 6:31:00 AM

If illegals get taxes deducted from their check, and pay FEDERAL taxes, it's because they are using a STOLEN SS card. Mexicans bragging about paying taxes, better think again. If illegals pay social security taxes, they lied to an employer and are taking jobs away from legal Americans. You think thats not a burden? Illegals pay SALES taxes, like every 2 year old who pays for candy or something cute. Illegals may donate to their church, or each other, but, mostly we are donating to them at Missions, in food lines, food give aways that used to be for American poor and elderly but are now over powered by tons of Mexican illegals, to name a few. (I'm not talking Legals and they know it). At Christmas, when charities are giving out free toys, it's always Mexicans illegals grabbing them up or benefiting, because we have to supply their children. Don't bother to cry about all the lowly jobs illegals "have" to do. If they don't like it, stay home. Those jobs are what we used to do until Mexians came pouring across the border with their green cards. By the way I have nothing against green cards, just use them. Yes, Americans, as you illegals like to use as an excuse for being here, did migrate here and gave their money, lives and acts of fairness to make this a country every brown skinned person is racing to get into. There was a whole TV program pointing out all the Brown people coming in, so it's not me being racist. Our forefathers killed got killed, as does any waring nation, stole?maybe some crooks did, just like illegals. They didn't have the high-powered assault weapons used by gangs and drug cartels coming here. They fought, bought, worked and LIED part of your post...lied is what Obama, and the La Raza leader does by thinking up excuses for illegals being her, so they can use them for their own greed and fame. I see you are a Mexican and have gotten your education in our country. Did you get free breakfasts and lunches? Do your parents have papers or are they waiting for amnesty (free of course). Did we have to hire extra spanish speaking teachers for your classes, extra teachers, tutors? I bet your parents used food stamps, or medical aid because you kids needed help. I bet if you are legal, you are an anchor. At any rate, your excuses are the same stretch used by people who know they are doing wrong.

News flash: Before Columbus discovered America here were no Latinos here. Latino means speaking a latin based language like Spanish, French, Italian, etc. At least when the Dutch and English settled here they tried to co-exist with the Natives. There was a conflict of interests and war broke out. However, the Spanish "Conquistadors" came with one mission in mind: To kill, rape and rob. That's why Mexicans hate Cortez and changed the Sea of Cortez to the Gulf of California. So get over yourSELF there is plenty of blame to go around.

  • Juan 07/06/2010 2:40:00 AM

@ihatelibtards noticed how u said "that's the side you need to focus on" YOU fall into that VERMIN category because you are only focusing on your side, one side (in other words, your convenience) and not on both sides.. I'm always hearing how illegals take away taxpayer money.. so ask yourself this, what happens to all the money of MILLIONS of ILLEGAL workers go to?? they get taxes deducted as we do, they go do their taxes as we do, they shop, buy, donate, and help our local economies.. so tell me, how is it a burden on our shoulders, when they are doing what we do to survive, not all but the majority, think about it if an illegal can come and get medicare for free, than i can too n so could you, but we choose not to because its "GHETTO" "LOW" "NOT 4 ME" or simply because we can afford it, so don't be Hypocrite about them using it when you choose not to.. just like they take the jobs that Americans don't want. somebody has to. not only that they do it we lousy pay, lousy conditions, lousy work, NO BENEFITS pretty much being a slave but getting paid for it.. don't you remember that Americans themselves MIGRATED, KILLED, STOLE, FOUGHT, BOUGHT, WORKED and LIED to become what we have become today..

If I had the choice to kick someone out of my country, America, I would rather kick air-headed, lazy losers like you, than a hard working Mexican with no English who took the job right under your nose. America is not facing the challenges it does because of illegal immigrants, but because of a rapidly growing population of stupid, ignorant, depressed and overmedicated meatheads like you. I am amazed at how easy it is to get an idiot angry by just writing a comment, because s/he never tries to understand the point, but is always ready to point fingers and yell at someone to justify their own misery. Go ahead rednecks, tell me what else you will say that I haven't already heard from lowlifes like you.

  • Juan 07/06/2010 12:45:00 AM

its funny how u only point out how illegals cost to this country, but don't point out the fact that they also contribute to this country. so you automatically contradict what you are trying to get out.. which is to get to know more about the illegals to make a better conclusion about them. well in order to make a FAIR and ACCURATE conclusion you have to look at both sides of the coin and not just the side you want to look at.

Federal propaganda that Americans will not do any job to earn a living..So taxpayers took care of her siblings too..Cancer treatment is expensive..Medicaid patients get beter treatment at no cost versus the working poor in this country..Fact. Personally..This is why I removed myself from the organ donor program..They want to abuse the program by giving to illgals I'm out..They can be apathetic if they choose to be..I am not..I would prefer to keep an (American citizen) eldery person alive with a donation but the elderly and smokers are subject to coming in last for a donation. So I am no longer an organ donor..

  • justme4 07/05/2010 9:39:00 PM

Well Luke....guess you should have slowed down yourself. Only because I see human need before immigration needs, I will point out your errors in your spelling, since you are concerned about other people's grammar and punctuation. You say; "Human suffering is always sad, we all going to go through it in one way or another"....wouldn't that be... we ARE all going to go through it...? There is also "Her family history is hart failure and cancer"....I always thought that was spelled HEART....who knew? Then there is the best one at the end where you contradict yourself....."Until you fully understand the situation and know what you are talking about, you are not unqualified to accurately judge on any of these peoples views or intelligence" Unqualified? Really? (thinking that you really meant QUALIFIED....but maybe that was an on purpose slip up....who knows?) I actually hate that people get more concerned about pointing out other peoples mistakes as opposed to seeing what the article is really about. It's like they want to point out others failures and not focus on what it is that the discussion is all about, thus my pointing this out....silly really. Fact of the matter is, we DO have immigration issues, and it's a double edged sword. We as American's don't want them here illegally, yet we don't want to do the jobs that these people do for us every day. How many American's would at the drop of a hat, leave their family at night and walk miles to do a job for less than minimum wage because if they don't, they may never work again? I'd estimate that that would be less than 1% of our population. It's like the article points out, we can harvest their organs, yet not give them one when they need it. There are bad seeds in every country, state, province, city, community, family....but that does not mean the entire population of those people as a whole are bad. Yes, we need to stop immigration of those who's main purpose is crime, but we need to remember that our country was founded on the principle of being able to come here to prosper and be free. That does not mean that they are entitled to a free ride, or that every one else suffers so they can prosper, but it should mean that they can start new and make a decent life for themselves, as our forefathers did, and as many of us still try to do today. I don't profess to have all the answers, and some may find what I say totally way off base, and that's ok. I think when we strive to help and give and show compassion....ultimately it is returned to us in ways we don't expect or look for. That may be naive, but I didn't submit a comment to solve the worlds problem, just to say that discussing the issues as opposed to finding fault with everything that is said, written or spelled detracts from the discussion and really getting the issues solved. Sort of like the BP oil spill, and boats have to sit there waiting for days so they can get a permit to clean up instead of spending those days working while the permits are taken care of. Too many people are caught up in the LETTER of the law and complain about everything, and then when nothing gets done, they complain about that as well. Stupid. Changes the direction of discussion. Waste of time and money and efforts. Doesn't even matter about the subject. Oh and as for the last comment on being qualified or unqualified....sometimes the best answers and solutions come from someone who isn't so embroiled in the mess to begin with, as they see with new eyes, new vision and new ideas that somehow seem to work. Everyone is entitled to give their opinion.

  • notbuyingit 07/05/2010 7:57:00 PM

I can see illegals think since they have gotten better perks than Americans their heads are skewed and think citizenship is just "a paper". This poster is the perfect example of the type people are here freeloading. This poster has had a good education............on us and is still illegal. This is one of those waiting around for amnesty.

While I can empathize with the immigrants going through their battle for survival I don't feel that coming across our borders and destructing American lives, property, taking jobs, and felching off the American medical and school systems is the answer to their problems. Sounds to me as if Mexico (and a lot of other countries) need to get a handle on the real issues going in their own countries. I am by no means against helping other people in need, but when it comes to hurting our countries resources to do so, I cannot agree that this is the best way to help, not when we have starving, homeless families, and individuals here at our own doorsteps. Our nation spends so much money yearly helping, and aiding other countries. Our country spends so much money on wars (that have drug on way too long now), but our people, our friends, neighbors, family, are struggling. Issues like no medical coverage, can't get it from the government cause you make too much money to qualify. Job market is harsh, and has little to offer. People can't find work cause there isn't any, and on the off chance one opens up, good luck competing against 300 other people to get it. 1.3 million Americans are without Unemployment benefits, and other .4 Million will be added to that number by the end of July. How do they live? Do they get free medical? Free School? Food? Rent paid? I seriously doubt that they will, and no one cares but yet we are worried about immigration and how do we fund and take care of our illegal population? Our values, morals, and concept of what the United States of America is, has become shaded. Please don't preach about sympathy, and empathy for the illegal immigrants. I am 42, live in Phoenix, and I got laid off a year and a half ago. I can't find a job to save my life (literally). I am either over qualified, or there are 300 applicants for one position. I have lost my home, my car, my kids are living with friends, and I am living with my parents (in a very small modular home). I have a medical condition which requires me to take meds daily that I can't afford. I was denied for ACHHS medical coverage through the state because I make $196.00 (a year) too much (drawing unemployment, which is about to expire, and I will be one of the 1.7 million people starving, and living on the streets). I am not sharing this for sympathy, I am trying to make a point. Americans are suffering too. We are forced to have to make do, and cannot get help from our government (even to save our lives with medical coverage), why should illegal immigrants be able to? Yes, "medical reform" is coming, however if I dont sign up for and pay for my Federally required medical coverage, I will receive a fine from our government for not having medical insurance! Where and how does that help the American people, especially those of us that have no income, and no bright future outlook to have income this year (or maybe even next year)?

Contrary to your view of all these blogs, I see frustration, disgust and despair. It appears to me if some people slowed down, maybe they would have punctuated a little better, so I could understand their message easier. Human suffering is always sad, we all going to go through it in one way or another, hopefully we have the insurance or funds. Many Americans can match this womans' misfortune, but with different struggles. It's all sad. In the story this woman had plenty of family up here, but none to chip in and help, I can only surmise they, too, are illegals. Her family history is hart failure and cancer, some of whom were ill while here and probably used our services. The blogs on this site include remarks from illegals that reflect their intent, sense of entitlement and the lack of principles practiced in our society. Based on their vernacular and attitude alone, you see the intent of, especially Mexicans, then Guatemalan illegals crossing our borders.Their remarks represent millions who are here to invade this country. It is apparent you know nothing about the carnage and disruption illegals do to a neighborhood, community, state or our country, or the desperate situation the United States is in. Until you fully understand the situation and know what you are talking about, you are not unqualified to accurately judge on any of these peoples views or intelligence. A little more knowledge on what illegals are costing this country, will help you make a more accurate conclusion.

Clearmist I have to say you are in a FOG! I didn,t come to this Great Country of ours to escape injustice, from my native country I have escaped to Austria to save my life, I came here because I was given an opportunity to enter as a LEGAL Immigrant an to work hard , learn english then join te US Army to fight Communism, because I have escaped from the grip of that inhuman system and I wanted to make sure that others would be spared from enduring that what I had endured as a child. Unfortunatelly 2 Vietnam tours on my part wasn,t enough to fullfill my hope of ending communism in South East Asia. I didn,t run away from nothing FOGMIST, I only changed the turf on which I fought the enemy. Had I stayed in my native country at a tender age of 14 and a half I would have received a marker in a Cemetery in Budapest. Unfortunatelly missguided people like yourself blocked the US Military to achieve success in Vietnam , where after the 1975 US withdrawal millions were killed and tortured and it took a GREAT MAN like President RONALD REAGAN to ratchet up the pain in both the Military and Economic areas so that the Commies finally cried UNCLE!!

There R these stories from the beginning of time and will continue to the end of time! We feel sorrow for these health tragedies, but U R making a tragedy out of health care money we provide for our USA citizens programs!!! OUR CONGRESS DOES NOT GIVE IT TO U!!! IT COMES FROM OUR USA CITIZENS TAXES THAT CONGRESS TAKES IT FROM!!! All illegals should be sent back & if they had babies here they R illegals too because their parents came illegally BREAKING & DISRESPECTING USA LAW! Break a foreign country's law & it takes an act of our congress + PLENTY of $'s to get our people out!!! MAKE UR GOVERNMENT PROVIDE FOR U!!!!!! UR there citizen!!!!! President Kennedy elegantly & simply put it, "It's not what my country can do For me, but what can I do for MY country." Immigrants fleeing & illegally entering & disrespecting Other countries Laws do not make U a desirable citizen. With the billions of $'s we have to spend on just these types of cases adding to OUR national defecit, OUR childrens childrens childrens children will never be able to pay! WHY do U Illegal immigrants get free medical, etc., etc. from our hard earned taxes & USA citizens Have to pay for ALL our needs!!! My ancestors came with Columbus & faced ALL TYPES OF HARDSHIPS & again with Onate in 1598. Nothing but hostill land, weather, indians{who were raiding & stealing & massacreing each other's tribes to survive}was here to receive them. YES, we FOUGHT against all these odds to survive & settled the Southwest, to carve out what U turn Ur eyes to & say, "We want a better life there with NO Pain!!! FREEBIES!!! All this that our people Have earned thru BLOOD, SWEAT & OUR loved ones LIFES!!! USA may NOT be perfect BUT it's MY COUNTRY!!! MY PEOPLE have paid an enormous price for these rights!!! Including being in EVERY skirmish & Wars to the present. & yes my immediate relatives! Stand UP in UR homeland & riot there to gain UR rights there! Fight the fight to make UR government extend to U & UR children to come these rights!!! OH, U say, "We will be killed, prosecuted." SO WERE MANY, MANY, MANY of MY PEOPLES!!! & STILL R BY SOME OF UR ILLEGALS who come here disrespecting us & helping themselves to OUR HARD EARNED BENEFITS!!!!!!! WE R NOT against people, but come according to LAW & not adding a BURDEN to OUR PEOPLE & COUNTRY!!!! GOD BLESS the USA!! Ps. Many of these people in this story were illegals. Why R they still here?

Illegal immigration = Social Terrorism No nice way to put it you don’t like it go back to Mexico or whatever country you are from and take your anchor babies with you. Throwing a temper tantrum and calling everyone racists is nothing short of ignorant on the part of the opponents of SB1070. American citizens are fed up!! Throwing the race card is the proof YOU HAVE NO AGRUMENT!

  • OpenEdu 07/04/2010 7:09:00 PM

This is heartbreaking, but most of all, cases like this are everywhere you live. Look around, I bet you will find someone around your neighborhood going through this lone battle. We are all the same, we are all people. When will we understand that "illegal" simply means that we choose to keep them illegal. It is simply a small paper that makes one legal. And no illegal immigrant is harming the economy. Think about this, how is an illegal immigrant hurting the economy, and the legal one is not?? What is the difference? And let's talk real facts and common sense, not here-says from TV and your uncle Bob. Our politicians simply want to find someone to blame for their own lack of results. It is an old formula, trying to find someone to blame in order to move the spotlight away from the real issues, the fact that our system is broken, that most of our politicians are corrupt and inapt for their positions.

  • Imyourangelica 07/04/2010 7:05:00 PM

  • 07/04/2010 6:16:00 PM

This is a compelling article, and I was moved to comment. I'm just a regular person and stories like this just break my heart - we are all human beings on this planet and we all need to respect and help each other. That sounds really pollyanna - but that is how I feel. Having said that, I can't help asking - why didn't her family already in the US sponsor her to come to the states? Why did she have to come illegally? The article doesn't say - I don't believe it's right for anyone to come to the US illegally - I'm a 4th generation American with ancestors from Irlend and Italy - and I just haven't been able to understand why the path to work or citizenship is being bypassed in the zeal to get to America and have a good life. Because situations like this will come up - needing health care or whatever - and then articles like this spotlight the awful plight and realities of anyone with no access to healthcare and the like. I don't really have an opinion; and some of the earlier posts are meanspirited and unintelligent in my view - having said that, is there a place I can send a donation or something to help this woman?

  • marg35 07/04/2010 12:11:00 PM

smiles: shut up, just shut up. you are the creepiest little snot i have ever witnessed. I hope your parents get deported and you have to leave with them. you are just the type person who has never been taught manners, you are just a smart ass, and come on line to be a nasty puke. people like you are why we don't want you here. you represent your people and so far you stink.

  • back to you, smircher 07/04/2010 11:57:00 AM

You sound ignorant, and you are an anchor baby. Your parents don't have papers, thats why you are such a jerk. You are so ignorant I bet you think the Indians would still be riding horses and living in teepees, if we didn't come here and make this a land every brown skinned person on earth is fighting to get to. We all know our history and are proud to be white, because its our people and legal immigrants who made this the country your parents snuck into. My people go back to the 1600s have land awarded to them for bravery in the Civil War. We have had sons in every war since, fighting for this country or another with pride and heroism. Can you say that? You don't even respect our flag. I live by a Mexican neighborhood and none of you ever fly the American flag. You don't honor our patriotic holidays or country, except to beg for free citizenship and amnesty. Some illegals are joining the military for free entry, we admire those people. You are so ignorant you think you deserve everything just because most of your people are illegal and freeloaders and millions crossed the border until we are overrun by you. It just makes us hate you more, you are so ignorant.

  • Jim50jam 07/04/2010 11:36:00 AM

Not all, but more than we need are criminals and rapists. You are wanted if you come here the right way, follow our law of being self sufficient or have a sponsor, not here to freeload off our schools and hospitals or social services. Americans use coupons because we aren't rich either and need to economize, that must be a shock to you Mexicans because you all have the attitude that we are rich so therefor should hand you our jobs. You illegals keep telling us you do the jobs we won't, thats a lie, I personally have cleaned floors and done maid work. When we were young we picked berries and potatoes to help out our parents for school money. You might think you do the work we won't then complain and complain....we didn't ask you up here to do any work, your people came up here to send our money back home. The reason vets beg for money is because they don't have to hide like illegals, plus they have problems from war duty or are hooked on drugs Mexicans bring across the border. No drugs no demand, keep your drugs in Mexico. Its snotty attitudes like yours that makes us determined to send you back...you are freeloading of us. We aren't rich, but we pay our way. I see you are going to our schools, we paid for. Eating free school meals? Taking our jobs? Food stamps? planning on getting pregnant so you can have an anchor baby, so you can be here? Bet someone in your family has been to our doctors or hospital and didn't pay. If you are proud to be a Mexican, and you should be, go to Mexico, you'll feel better not being picked on. You have no papers? that should answer all your questions. Our law states to come here you have to have a sponsor, or have a skill so we don't have to spend money to train you, or have money to take care of your self until you get work, plus speak English, pay for citizenship and come in the right way.

  • Jim 07/04/2010 10:56:00 AM

I'm with ya trollsbridge69.....you said it all, you have a good hart.

  • Jim J 07/04/2010 10:50:00 AM

Yah, Oliviamei8, they should just give all you illegals everything. Getting rid of illegals freeloading off our "messed up economy" would be a better solution and save us trillions. Having to pay for millions of anchors birth every minute of every day, plus medical if anything is wrong, sucks. Paying for millions and millions of illegals anchors free breakfasts and lunches every day at the schools they've taken over, plus their tutors, and extra Mexican speaking teachers costs us billions. Adults classes and schools, then college for the family, food stamps, times millions and millions of illegals, year after year, has drained states economy, costing billions, by now trillions. Jails, billions. All those hard working illegals you spout off about, can do their wonders and hard work in Mexico. Your attitude reflects every illegal here. Giv'me, giv'me, giv'me. You people sound and act like a bunch of spoiled brats. Try this same crap in Mexico when you get sent back. If you plan on leaving your spawn, make sure they have someone to care for them. We don't want to feed the anchors you ripped us of with, or spend more money sending in social services, Medicare and aid you expect for free.

Trollsbridge69 im an american citizen and you know what you should do instead of talking trash about immigrants and how they shouldnt be here. You should learn how to spell what a disgrace for you to say that your american. Maybe if you used proper grammar people would take you seriously. But not me because your so busy talking trash about immigrants that you should be embarrased to even say that your american LEARN HOW TO SPELL IDIOT!!

  • Trollsbridge69 07/04/2010 8:05:00 AM

This is the same story we hear all the time......you people don't get it, you are illegal, take all that talent and go back to Mexico now that they are built up. Take back all the College graduates, and schooled Mexicans who are sitting here waiting to take our jobs...go back home and build your businesses, You do not deserve amnesty ahead of all the others who have been waiting to get in legally...go home. Mexico has new opportunities, thats the country you have in your blood that you love so much you send your money back. Go home.

  • Trollsbridge69 07/04/2010 7:23:00 AM

You should probally learn more about the language and history so you can reply in proper english and realise boarders seperate our countrys an your ignorant but is on the rong side.

  • This is not true 07/04/2010 7:13:00 AM

Lady don't go crying about your husbands job, if he were legal that wouldn't have happened. The story "Mexicans pay social security taxes and can't collect it", is the more recent lie passed around by La Raza. Your people think up so many excuses to account for being here, we see right through you anymore. Because you can't get everything you want NOW, we are called names. You are racist by calling us names and hating our guts for not following your demands. Illegals still get food stamps (another lie) many Mexicans know how to work the system, some have never gotten off and many are getting food stamps and SS with their children (anchor babies) as their excuse. I live on the border, and have seen first hand what goes on and the tricks Mexicans do to our government 'on down to ripping off our grocery stores. Julia is absolutely NOT a rare case, another lie.Where I live, hospitals and Dr.offices are so full of nothing but Mexicans and their tons of kids, getting free aid, and free babies, there is no place to sit. I can tear apart your whole blog sentence by sentence. Guess what, may Americans work without the safety protection you think your husband deserved. The the roaches... thousands of Americans, blacks and whites, live in the same conditions, because they are poor or elderly and don't have a voice. Illegals think we are all rich so should support them, and their attitude is we are horrible if they don't get everything they want. If you were born into poverty, as many Americans are, its sad but its not our fault, we shouldn't be expected to take care of Mexicos's poor.Your government who brags that there are 400,000 new jobs in Mexico, free medical, free school, good business loans....so don't freeload off us, then cry about it. You knew before you came here it would be rough and you weren't wanted. We have our own poor who get nothing and don't go parading around, calling us names and demanding free medical, to pay for their health, schools, college and anchor babies. Sorry you were born poor, now that you got your education from us and are better off, go home, help your village, take all the other Mexicans we educated with you. I bet you would rather stay up here and send money back to Mexico and wait for amnesty and free citizenship, have a bunch of children and try to make us into Mexico. Good luck being back where you started, because it will still be MEXICO, the place all of you ran from. How bout paying us back for the aid you received from us...start with baby bills then schools, etc. before you leave.

  • Trollsbridge69 07/04/2010 7:12:00 AM
