Thrice are scheduled to perform on Thursday, July 15, at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe.
Thrice walk a fine line. Though their sound is raw, and leans toward the heavier side of alternative rock, their lyrics are more philosophical than those of the average rock band. Well, maybe "religious" is the better word. Though it's not entirely clear what the distinction is between "Christian music" and music that merely has Christian themes, Thrice sits right on that blurred border. Despite not considering themselves an evangelical band, they still make references to noted Christian writer C.S. Lewis, and they even pepper their music with lines from the Bible. They often do so through the themes of loneliness, love, and searching for a greater truth. Their last record, Beggars, came out nearly a year ago, and this summer takes them on tour across the U.S., as well as Europe. The risk they take of being too religious for a mainstream crowd and not religious enough for some is likely what makes them authentic and draws in their audiences.
