Scott McCarrey's play Robot Songs gets its staged readings (directed by the venerable Robert Kolby Harper) this weekend. The show's blurb reads, "The Man from the Paper tries his best to hide his curious nature from his fellow citizens and the sinister Mayor while consorting with an exiled Artist who lives alone in a shack outside of town."

Hmmmm.

McCarrey, a Brooklyn-based Texan, O'Neill Center-attending, multiple-fellowship-receiving holder of an MFA from Tisch School of the Arts, weaves a tale about this newspaper writer and the oddball company he keeps — eventually leading to the discovery of a robot obsessed with pop music.

And we thought our friends were weirdos. Maybe we'll invite them along when we check this thing out to see how much of McCarrey's script is taken directly from our own thrill-a-minute life as a journalist.
