Gay softball team throws big bash before big tourney
University of Arizona alum and superstar softball player Jennie Finch may be retiring, but there’s a new reason to get excited about softball in the Valley. Namely, the Phoenix Spartans, a squad that isn't your average ponytail-and-ribbon-wearing ensemble -- they're representing Arizona at the Gay Softball World Series this month in Columbus, Ohio.
On Saturday, pretend those pool noodles are softball bats and swing away at the Summer Softball Splash, a shindig in honor of the Spartans, who are joining other Arizona competitors at the big tournament. If you're into big muscles, this party's for you, as many representatives from the Cactus City Softball League will be in attendance. There'll also be music, games, prizes, and cocktails.
