Life After Warner

The Matt Leinart era begins. Sigh?

The Arizona Cardinals are an unknown commodity this year. The lynchpin of their offense, quarterback Kurt Warner, has retired, leaving former golden boy Matt Leinart to step in. There’s no guarantee that the Cards will be the gun-slinging team they once were, which is why their preseason opener against the Houston Texans is as close to a must-see as preseason football can get.

The game will provide the first glimpses of life (or death) after Warner. It might also be one of the few times this season that a great passing team walks into University of Phoenix Stadium because the Texans, paced by quarterback Matt Schaub and receiver Andre Johnson, averaged a league-best 290 yards passing per game in 2009.
