Mystery Maven

Irene Ziegler offers new rules

Poor Annie Bartlett. Her fiancé dumped her. Her dead mother is constantly criticizing her. And her lay-about father was beaten to death -- possibly by his girlfriend. What’s a gal to do?

If you’re the revived fictional character, Annie Bartlett, from author Irene Ziegler’s just-published Ashes to Water, you pull on your sleuthing cap and head to the scene of the crime -- your childhood lakeside home.

“I just keep returning to that lake,” Ziegler says. “In my dreams, and in my memories, and because my husband missed Annie and wanted me to write about her again.”

In Ashes, Ziegler not only presents a new mystery, but also revisits the death of Annie’s mother, who may or may not have committed suicide in a previous novel.
