Down and Maybe Out

Can the knocked-down Mercury make the playoffs?

Between Diana Taurasi’s flying elbows, DeWanna Bonner’s concussed head, and the Phoenix Mercury’s post-season future up in the air, the team’s regular-season home finale should be a doozy.

The Mercury, 14-14 at press time, are battling for their playoff lives. Tonight's game against the Seattle Storm is looking pretty much like a must-win for the Mercury and their leader, Taurasi, who broke the nose of Indiana Fever guard Jessica Davenport on August 8 (the flying-elbow incident is under review by the WNBA). Meanwhile, the conidition of Bonner has been questionable since she was knocked unconscious in the same game.
