Gimmie Cinematic Shelter

The Rolling Stones are virtually back

It appears finally to have happened: The Rolling Stones are too old to tour. Why else would the band have re-released its seminal concert film, Ladies and Gentlemen...The Rolling Stones, to cinemas nationwide?

It’s possible, of course, that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and bandmates Mick Taylor, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts are doing swell and have released this high-definition, digital version of their legendary 1974 concert film simply because they love us. Whatever the reason, this movie, edited from four separate concerts when the band was at its peak, will play on Thursday, September 16, at theaters nationwide, providing a sort of rock ’n’ roll way-back machine to the nation for just one day.

In addition to “Tumbling Dice” and “Brown Sugar,” fans will be treated to a newly filmed interview with Jagger, who reflects on memories of the tour captured in the movie and updates fans on where his bandmates are today. Other bonus features include tour rehearsal footage from Montreux, and the legendary (and probably expurgated) 1972 Old Grey Whistle test interview with Jagger, which most fans have never seen before.
